I knew there was a good reason I changed their food. This time last year, Winchester had a bald spot on his back above his tail, that itched and bothered him. All of them have nice shiney coats this year, after I have been feeding other higher quality foods, such as natures recipe, and noe dick van pattons, natural food for puppies and adults, small bites. The first bag I got od dvp, had two big moldy clumps in it. I called the company, and Petco, and took it back and got a differnt bag, which seems ok this time. They sent me a voucher for a free bag, and some coupons.

OMG! We feed our dogs Nutro, but our dog Licorice has been doing better on it! ( Her arthritis seems to be letting up!) But Daisy is shedding a TON lately, and It's everywhere. I need to show my mom this.

Remember back when all the food recalls were happening and Nutro switched ownership to Mars?  We thought at that time the quality of the food might degenerate....plus the quality control might get worse.  Seems to be the case.

This is heart breaking....I fed this over a year ago, but not for very long. I couldn't even read all of the stories of the sick and dying dogs....they should be put out of business. They knew something was wrong with all the people calling....they are disgusting!!

I'm glad I never switched over to it. I considered it with my new pup. But I'll stick with Purina for now.

Vinnie has always eaten this ever since he's been born and we have never had a problem with it. I guess I'll have to consider changing foods maybe.

I have fed Immi G. this since day one. She will be 12. I also started Savanna on it when I got her. I switched foods last year, and tried a few others Merrick for a while and Dick Van Pattens. I switched back to the lamb and rice about 3 months ago. The girls coats  look better, Immi walks better, (she has hip issues) and both have more energy.

I used to feed Nutro years up until I switched to Nature's Variety. I always thought it was a premium dog food...
I think that because of the vast recall recently many people are simply becoming more educated and cautious, and whether these pet food companies like it or not... they WILL have to respond to the demands and higher expectations of their consumers.

I don't use Nutro food, but I have been giving Marley Nutro biscuits as a treat and he has been vomiting after eating them.  They are going straight into the trash!

OMG! I just remembered I'm giving all the dogs except Mayfly Nutro biscuits because they have glucosamine in them!  I had to stop giving them to Mayfly because her ears bubble up and she was itching...I figured it was the corn and wheat in them!

They are going in the trash as soon as I walk in the house tonight.

This is just awful!   My heart goes out to these people... it really does.  I switched Apollo from Nutro about a year ago when the food recall was going on.  Soooo glad I did.

I've been feeding Nutro for years and haven't had any problems. I better re-evaluate my dog's health. I haven't seen loose stools on any of them, maybe I've just been lucky?

I had been feeding the Nutro Ultra dog food until the recalls last year. After looking into it, I learned alot more than I wnated to about the pet food industry. It's a shame. One thing that I also learned which was useful, was to get my dogs on a grain free diet .and I have seen a noticeable difference (especially with Buddy's skin) since doing so. I'm feeding Nature's Variety Instinct.

It's very sad that so many have lost their beloved pets because of contaminated food. It's something to always keep an eye on, that's for sure.

My mom still uses Nutro for her cats and dogs. She hasn't had any problems. I switched to Solid Gold awhile back, I like it better.

All my pets are on Nutro foods and I have never had a problem *knock wood* with their food.

My 15 year old beagle mix has been eating Nutro Max for 13 years and she is still going strong.
My 2 year old rattie  has been on Nutro Ultra for a few months, and we have had no problems like those described.
My cat eats Nutro Max indoor formula - he will not eat anything else at all - and he is fine as well.

I am so sorry for those pet owners....I have been lucky I guess.  It makes you wonder if there are any safe foods out there...

I've fed all 3 of my Dogs Nutro Natural Choice for years! (One gets the senior, one gets the light and the other gets the high energy).

Is there another "natural" type dog food out there that is a good quality? Any recommendations? Something I can get locally and not have to order?

If you go to any of the high quality food website they have a store locator option, you can put in your zip code and find local places that sell the food - like Innova/EVO, Canidae, Natural Balance, Solid Gold, Merrick, Wellness, Nature's Variety, etc.  You'll find them in small pet boutiques, feed stores, etc.  Also, Petco now carries Natural Balance and Solid Gold as well as some mid-quality foods that are organic and don't have corn or wheat...I call them "mid quality" because they do have a lot of other grains in them.

Looks like whatever the current problem is with Nutro is sort of like Russian roulette - your bag of food might not be contaminated but the next bag might.  Very scary....and it's probably linked to the fact that the huge conglomerate Mars took them over.  Mars makes everything from candy to Kraft to really bad dog food like Pedigree!

Switched Shemp to Nature's Variety chicken and brown rice. We have always feed our cats nutro with no probs. He came with nutro so I kept him on nutro but I'm taking no chances. I will say the Nature's Variety smelled real good. If i was a four y/o boy, I would eat it no problem. Shemp did dive in and destroyed it. I guess he liked it too.

Nature's Variety makes excellent foods... I feed their raw, and rotate among chicken, beef and venison. I supplement Bailey's food with Nature's Variety salmon and brown rice because he stays so thin (he's VERY active). But the chicken and brown rice is good too. I mix a little warm water with it when I feed it.

What about Pet Smart Brand of nutro?  Tobey quit eating Candie, would not touch.  He eats this but only once a day.  It is lamb and rice.  He is still shedding like crazy.  I still would like to find something to help the shedding. I have to vacumn everyday it is so bad.  I think i will take him to the vet and see if there is anything that could be wrong with him that could cause the shedding.  Any suggestion?

OMG I have been feeding Maggie (dog) and Sonny (cat) Nutro for years. Sonny will only eat chunk wet food...he hates the loaf and Nutro is one of the only ones that makes the pouch food. I have not noticed any problems with food. Sonny just went to the vet and they said for an indoor cat he is the most muscular and well excercised indoor cat they've seen. Maggie had the knee surgery last year and came through better than ever. The both have never had digestive problems or skin or coat problems. I am scared but I don't know.

Sylvia, I was having VERY BAD shedding. I changed their food to Innova EVO and started giving them an Omega 3 Fish Oil with Vitamin E supplement in their food. MAJOR improvement. I get the oil from Seapet online. Just make sure the fish oil is pure and not from fish that could contain mercury.

What is the Petsmart bramd of Nutro?? I have heard some others say their dogs weren't too fond of Canidae. You could try another high quality food like Wellness, Natural Balance. Petsmart doesn't really care any high quality foods. Petco carries Nature's Variety, Natural Balance and Avoderm.
