My Rat Terrier/Chihuahua mix seems to always want to be eating! Every time I see him he always has something in his mouth that I have to  take from him and he always wants to eat something someone has in their hand regardless what it is!

I've seen him eat paper, glass (Christmas ornaments that ended up falling from the tree), his own poop and anything that ends up on the floor that he can put in his mouth.

He’s officially 9 months old today, so I'm just wondering if he'll out grow this or is this common among Rat terriers?

Because our full breed Chihuahua only eats when he has to and barely eats anything unusual.

Thanks for the info!

Each dog - like people - are individually different. Some dogs have a good sense of eating only what they need. Others, not so much! He should be out of any heavy teething stage at his age. I would suggest you supply him with a lot of appropriate chew things, and do your best to doggy-proof the house from anything that might be harmful.

As for shredding paper - definitely a rattie trait!!!!

Yeah, he has like 20 different things to chew/play with and yet he always goes after things he shouldn't be going after! It's pretty insane how he always gets ahold of them!

He finds things all the time and we're always like-- "Where in the world did you get that?! Do we even own that?!" lol.

my fur babies find everyting as well and will "test" the editiablity of each thing... they will eat nonstop though... if you feed them. dont like the poop though! lol he is probably just a very curious fella! dogs mouths are their hands.. its how they learn, feel and exam things! its probably not a hunger things... he is just "educating" himself!

you can get things for the poo eating.  here's one that I found:

don't know what to tell you about the rest.  my ratties have a thing about used tissues...they find them irressistable for some reason.

Your puppy is precious.  How much does he weigh?
