Did they take her temperature? I would be worried about the lack of drinking also. When dogs don't feel well, they stop drinking and can dehydrate rapidly. I know Oscar did. That's why I'm so concerned, because Oscar also wouldn't eat or drink and slept all the time. I was scared for him. But when the vet gave him subcutaneous fluids, his fever went down and he was back to his old self in less than 2 hours. |

poor baby! and poor you for having to deal with it. pumpkin is used for both constipation and the runs...weird, but it works. my girls protested the first few times I mixed it in their food, but now the beg for it and eat it off the spoon. it might help with the constant leakage. |

The pumpkin is added fiber and will firm the stool. If you can get it mixed with a little food, they will accept it better. I give it to ours every meal. Depending on the size of the dog, between 1 tsp and 1 tbsp. I also give our 19 year old Prozyme. It's digestive enzymes and it helps with the tummy upsets, too. Will she eat yogurt? A teaspoon of plain yogurt will probably counteract the lack of good tummy bacteria that the antibiotics are removing. Also, I would put her on a chicken or ground beef/rice mixture. Cook the chicken until done and add instant rice to the broth. If you use ground beef, make sure it's very lean and soak all the grease out of it. Mix it with cooked rice. Give in very small meals.
That poor little girl! She sounds pitiful. Is there any blood in the drippy stuff? Do you have any baby wipes? Try gently wiping her back end with one of those. And, don't laugh, but Preparation H Wipes are wonderful for a sore backside due to anal glands. Just don't let her lick after you do it until it dries off.
I hope she feels better soon.

I agree with Patti on the Prep H wipes, but I think they make some with witch hazel which is natural and might not be as bad if she licks it. Maybe you can mix pumpkin in with the stuff she is gobbling down? Patti is a good resource for getting her to eat since she has some very special dogs who have needs like this. |

I have been giving her yogurt, but I'll try to find the GE stuff that Rattagan used. She is such a different pup now. She just wants to sleep and she didn't even get in bed with me last night. She stayed in her crate with door open...I left it open so she could get water and do whatever else came along...but I was hoping she would come snuggle. When my hubby was getting ready for work this morning, I asked him if she was dead. He said no and picked her up and laid her next to me. She is just so pitiful. She has eaten a little yogurt this morning that I spoon fed her and I gave her the 2 antibiotics one is Clavamox and one is Metronidazole. I shot a couple of tsp of water in her mouth with a syringe because she isn't drinking. She isn't yelping in pain today, so I guess she is getting better. I'm just worried about the lack of drinking. You know me, I'll probably call the vet and ask if they will give her IV fluids. I feel so crazy. But, I know you guys are crazy about your animals also, so I can be honest with you. Thanks!
Carol
One other positive that I can see is that yesterday she was hiding under beds and couchs. Today she is trying to stay with her people. She's not in my lap right now, but she is in the room with me. Normally she is in my lap while I'm on the computer and she sticks like glue to me all day, so yesterday was particularly worrisome. I thought she was going to hide to die.
Carol, don't know if this helps, but I have taken the med Metronidazole, and it caused severe diarehha(however it is spelled) in myself, I know this is gross, but hey I have Crohns disease, so there is no modesty here This med is a very powerful antibiotic and can make you feel really crappy....It can be hard on your stomache too....
I hope she feels better soon, I feel so awful for you and Tinkerbelle |

Tinkerbelle is feeling much more like her old self today!!! She finally got a few little poops out and that helped with the dripping
Anyway, she jumped on the bed last night to sleep with me and we cuddled all night. Her hiney is still red and it hurts to go, but it looks so much better than yesterday. She has her old energy back and is wagging her tail again. Poor baby has very burned red lips and hiney, but I'm sure those will heal when she gets all of this stuff out of her. Her antibiotics are upsetting her tummy, so she is sad for a few hours after medicating. Today is her last day of the really bad medicine and I think it's the one that's hardest on her tummy. She'll be on the one for her bladder infection for another 12 days, so I hope it doesn't continue to upset her.
I will try mixing the pumpkin in. I gave her a big old blob on a plate yesterday and she had no part of it. I thinking mixing a tsp in with her chicken will probably really help. Thanks to everyone for all of your advice and getting me through this week. I just couldn't get enough help from my vet, so you guys were great. I thought he was a great vet when she was well, but when she was sick...I needed more. Think I'll be looking for another vet...I kind of felt like he didn't have a lot of hope, so he just left me to deal with it. I think he should have kept her and done all of the testing the first time I took her in and he couldn't find the obstruction...also, I think fluids would have been good for her to have.
Tinkerbelle says thank you to everyone for all of the positive thoughts and prayers!

I'm glad she's starting to feel better. I started giving pumpkin by mixing a tiny amount into their food and increased it a bit for the next few days. Last night I was in a hurry and forgot the pumpkin and Molly let me know that she was NOT happy with me for forgetting. |

SO glad to hear she is doing better. Poor little thing. And the vet says this was all brought on from her getting into the Miracle Gro? If so I'll definitely rethink my gardening plans this Spring. Once she is better that poor girl needs a trip to the pet store for some spoiling! |

Just something to throw out there.. I'm a vet tech. And I also own a picky rattie. I find that, desperate situations call for desperate measures. "Hills A/D" is a high calorie, extremely appealing canned food. Usually available through the vet. It runs about 1.38 a can. But it's something you can actually use to mix into the dry (or with the wet) you intend to feed her. And it will keep her from deteriorating until you get her to accept the food you have her on. Good luck |

You might want to look into something to restore her stomach flora, like probiotic. The antibiotics will also destroy the good bacteria in the digestive system. It's made a difference for Cameo after she was on antibiotics.
It is good to here that Tinkerbelle is getting over this and eating and pooping. |

This is not the kind of thing that I want to happen to my ratties, so the Miracle grow has to go. I will be going all organic garden from here on out! At least if they get into manure it does not make them that sick! I am glad that Tinkerbelle is better now! What an awful time you have had. |

I'm sooooo glad Tinkerbelle is feeling better!
A cool compress (washcloth with cool water) would probably feel pretty good back there.
Sami was so sensitive that she would have no part of me trying to get the compress near her rear end. So, I would pick Sami up with the compress in my hand so she could kind of sit on it in my arms. Or I would put a dry towel under the compress on the floor or couch and have her sit down on it.
It seemed to help a lot.
