Daisy has greeted the morning with heaving and the only thing she throws up is yellow, foamy liquid. What's this all about? Should I be worried? She's done this twice before. One time it did produce some other substance (she had played out in the yard by herself and no telling what she picked up and ate. Could have been bark, pine cone, leaves, anything.) She seems to be fine afterward. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yep, it's bile.  If it happens often in the morning you might want to give her a small snack before bedtime.

Glad to know what it is. Bile sounds right. She's not a big eater, but I will try and find something she'll eat right before bedtime. What about some carrot? Or should it be something more like a biscuit. I haven't found a biscuit that she really goes for. Her favorite treats or the liver treats, but I don't like to give her too many of them. Don't think it's heat related. She's only 18 wks old.

Thanks for all your help. You can really put someone's mind to ease. or know when to take action!!

you could give her a small amount of kibble before bed...my girls like a midnight snack sometimes, and that is what they get.

I'm not a big fan of biscuits.  Most have alot of questionable ingredients, with the exception of the EVO biscuits, mine love them (the EVO).  If she doesn't eat enough, maybe she'd go for a kong with kibble and a bit of canned food inside.  Or kibble inside with the hole covered with a bit of peanut butter.

No, no. No carrot, or pretzels either. Mooch has a very acidy stomach at night and carrot only made it worse. He threw up every morning when he was younger. The vet said it was bile, so told us to give him 1/4 tagamet before bed to help it out. For years we did this, with a 1/3 snausage, and recently discovered the snausages are hard to digest. This december we changed his food from Nutro chicken and rice senior to Eagle pack senior chicken and rice. The bile puking in the am stopped altogether. Well heck, why didn't we try a more natural food sooner? Maybe it's less acidic? I'm not a chemist. One caution, changing their food needs to be done slowly. We changed his food too fast the first time and had all sorts of problems, the runs, throwing up... until we found a med that soothed his system, and returned to the old food. A month later we tried again, very slowly and were successful. It was scary when he was sick, but sometimes it takes trying more than one med to sooth their system. Changing proteins, like from lamb to chicken also is really hard on their system too. Ask the vet. They are your best source of info. Go in for a checkup if you need to, just ot be sure nothing else is going on. Been there, done that, learned alot. There's ton of good info on this site!

Licorice, our 9 yr. old Lahsa-Apso/poodle mix has that yellow flemy stuff. But she eats fine. But I think that it's just that she is old, and crotchety.  But Daisy has thrown up PLENTY of times, and most of the time it is food, or.... poop..  But  when I can tell it is bile, I just give her a tiny bit of yogurt. It seems to help. But I can really feed her anything. . . Only because she will eat anything.

I've been giving her a vienna sausage before bedtime. It was something we had on hand that I didn't think we would be eating anytime soon.... Anyway, it seems to help, or at least it's not hurting. She hasn't had thrown up since I've been doing this. Thanks for all y'alls help on this. Really made me feel better and Daisy too!!

Thank you for this post. Rocky's had several bouts with the yellow vomit. He doesn't do it often and now I know exactly why it's yellow. The first time he did this, I thought he had eaten something toxic but after he threw up, he pranced around like nothing was wrong so I didn't worry too much about it. Anyway, I'm glad to know that other dogs do the same thing and to know exactly what causes the strange color. Thanks again!
