Marley was out romping through the scratchy, icy snow for about an hour (he loves to chase snowballs) and has little abrasions on all four legs. Can I put neosporin on them? If not, how should I treat them? He keeps licking them.
Thanks ahead of time,
Yukon |

I have used neosporin once on a burn Izzy got on the inner part of his leg from his leash. I wouldn't put it on all of his little cuts, only because he would be able to lick it off. And I'm sure its not good for him. Izzy gets cuts from the ice and snow all the time.. and just try and let them be. Hopefully they go away soon... |

Yes you may use Neo but not to generous, Sassie's vet who does not like to give alot of drugs to furbabies had me do that on her little boo boo's.. Also Sulfodene has come out with a 3-Way Ointment for dogs....Helps prevent infections, aids in pain relief, and the ointment form provides germ and insect barrier... |

Thanks all,
I will have to get some of the 3 way ointment. It sounds as if it would be a good thing to keep on hand.
Thanks again,

| I have put neosporin on Cody before. He had an irritated spot on his chin and I called the vet and they told me to. |

I've used neosporin before - hydrocortizone creams before - I think most of those OTC creams are OK to use sparingly. |

Thanks for all the info. I did pick up some of the Sulfodyne ointment for dogs and put it in the medicine chest. The ants will be biting soon and I think that would be good for the ant bites. |

| Yes, Neosporin is OK for dogs per my last vet. Vets use Panalog and Bactoderm, but those are just basically neomycin and polymycin like the Neosporin. Problem with the ointments is dogs tend to lick it off as fast as you put it on. I try to sit close by to prevent licking until the medicine has had a chance to be partially absorbed if I possibly can prevent the "lick it off" issues. |
