My poor girls are in misery...it's 91 here (for the second day).  It was a pretty sudden change in temp...about 20 degrees difference from one day to the next.  The pups seem to be eating and drinking fine, but Lucy threw up this morning, and I'm pretty sure she's the one who had an accident in the house too.  I don't know how to help them through this other than to try to keep them inside out of the hot sun during the day, and make sure that they have plenty of water available.  My big dogs seem to be doing fine, but they are older and have experienced hot weather before.

Is there anything else I can do to make them more comfortable in this hot weather?

I would definitely keep them inside where there is air conditioning. If you can't, make sure they have a shady area and a large water bowl that can't be tipped over.

We don't have a/c, but are keeping the ceiling fans on high. At the moment they are sleeping under the one in the office.

No a/c?  I don't understand this concept.    Our a/c runs about 10-11 months out of the year.

we don't use air conditioning, so in the summer (when it gets super hot) we keep fans on.  Keep a swamp cooler... which is Kevin's invention of a low bucket/bowl filled with ice put in front of floor fan... don't laugh!  it works!!  Plus Mic can help himself to a lick of ice when he wants.  Also, we keep blinds shut to keep the sun out.  It gets into the 100's about every day, so he has his own cool spot in the house which is under the couch...  Oh, also, we like to wet him down, which he acts like he hates, but once he's wet he loves it  !!  We just either fill our hands with water and sneak up to him... Or we actually fill up a spray bottle and put it on mist and just mist around him, which he doesn't really even notice.  Also, like you said, make sure they drink lots of water. Almost forgot, I give him a bath every couple days, not with soap, just cool water... he loves baths though so that's easy

just thought, I betcha the misty spray bottle won't work this summer since I now use a water bottle to keep him quiet at night

Put Ice cubes in their water to make it extra cold. Keep them in the shade or indoors. Getting them wet helps. The summers here are hot, mainly 90s and 100s and I think Lucy just adapts to the weather because it doesn't seem to have any major effects especially if I am doing those things. Plus last year I bought an air conditioner that goes in the window, but because my house is small and I have all hardwood floors it does a great job at keeping the house cold. I think I payed just over 100 at costco for it.

LOL!  I live in NY and still couldn't live without a/c...even if it is only for like 3 weeks out of the year total

We never had a/c until we moved into our current house (central air) and I didnt know what I was missing! I don't think I could survive without it now!  Barb's van has a/c, but I've never owned a vehicle that I just drive to work and back with a/c.   My little pom, Heidi just sits on the floor vent almost all summer long and hogs up the cool air!

I wouldn't mind it being 90 degrees here - but I love hot weather.  My doggies don't mind it to much either.  But - we do use Air Conditioning when it gets super hot.

I work out of the home...a very old house which has been added on to many times...no a/c, just fans.  It's not usually this hot this time of year.  Our hot spell is in Sept/Oct, an "indian summer"  At least it cools off during the night...gotta love living near the ocean!  Plenty of fog rolling in!  Plus a nice cool breeze right now.

Lucy's making up for sleeping most of the day...she's wandering around looking for trouble.

When we lived in Montery, CA we didn't have AC but we were very close to the ocean and there was a lot of fog and sea breezes...it just never got very hot there.

But here - with 90-100 degrees and high humidity - oh no....gotta have AC.

We don't have a/c either but have come up with lots of ways of cooling off. An old garden hose crimped shut at one end and poked full of tiny holes and hung in the branches of a tree makes a fantastic portable mister. Shiloh has two that she shares with her humans during barbecue season! Maybe give that a try too and that bowl of ice cubes in front of a fan does work really well. Gives the animals something to play with too. Shiloh loves to eat ice cubes. Its a crack up to watch them chase ice across the kitchen floor!
