Hi! I have an 11 yr. old male rat adopted from ratbone 5 years ago.  For about a week and 1/2 he has been waking up at 2-3 a.m. to go out and he goes to bed when we do around 10 pm.  He also squats when he pees instead of lifting a leg.  I don't know what is going on! He never would wake up in the middle of the night before. I live in Chicago and have been thinking it's because we don't walk at nite because of the frigid temps.. Help, I called the vet but can't get in till next week, could it be his diet? I feed him Venison and Rice Nutro dog food. thanks, corkysmom

I don't think the food would have anything to do with it. Are you taking him out to pee right before you go to bed at 10? Has he been drinking more water than usual? Has he been been peeing in inappropriate places (like on furniture, blankets, bed, etc.)?

Urinating more than usual can be a sign of UTI but hard to tell if that's it just from what you've said. Obviously, the vet will be able to diagnose so good think you're taking him in. Let us know what he says!
