We went to the low-cost vaccination and microchipping clinic they had this morning at our town's animal shelter.  It was sponsored by the Texas Coalition for Animal Protection.

For $95 Bob got a DHLPP vaccination, a heartworm test, microchipping, nails trimmed, and a year's supply of heartworm medication.

While we were waiting for our turn, Bob was fascinated with a 7 month old lab/pit mix that wasn't neutered yet.  That puppy was all legs.

Anyway, Bob is traumatized and clingy now.  He has blood on his back where they microchipped him.

Poor Bob...that's a lot for one morning! Sounds like the price was good, Pam. Was there a lot of people there?

Yes there were a lot of people there.  The clinic was open from 10-12 and we got there about 9:30 and were about 10th in line.  Poor baby is still clinging to me.

I have a question about the tag for the microchip. Should I put it on his collar? Should I keep it in our safe?

On one side it says "If I am lost, please call AVID at 1-800-###-####."  The other side says "My number is" and has his chip number on it.

Hmmm...will Avid issue a duplicate? If so, I'd probably put one on his collar and keep one at home in case the first should become lost. If not, I'd probably put it on his collar and just make certain to have the information that's on it in safe place at home.

I think technically it should be affixed to his collar, so if he does get lost, and someone finds him, they could just call avid and get your info, instead of having to take the dog to the vet to get scanned. I personally don't keep Copper's tag on her collar (but now that I think about it...maybe I should), but I do get her scanned each year at the vet to make sure her chip hasn't slipped and is working. You probably got some paperwork for your chip too, I don't think there is any reason to keep the tag in a safe. I think Copper's tag is in her folder of dog stuff, but I don't really know. Does avid have a website where you can update/verify the information?
