this month.  The local SPCA is having a low cost vaccination and microchipping special this Saturday.  I want to take Bob there to get microchipped, but I'm not sure about letting them vaccinate him.  I don't know if that includes a check up by a vet or not.  What would y'all do?

IF you are going to vaccinate, then they should be fine. I wouldn't forgo a checkup with your vet though. These clinics just don't do that. There are too many people for any real exam.

I would let them do the microchipping but I would stick to letting the vet vaccinate. Personally, I would do it that way just so your vet has accurate records and all Bob's history is in one place. I always feel so bad when I have to take my dogs for shots! LOL, I think I take it harder than them!

I think that is what I'll do, let them do the microchipping, but take Bob to the vet for his regular exam and shots. I know I am going to get a lecture about Bob's weight. But the vet should look at me and hubby and know that Bob is lucky to be as thin as he is.

I know from expericance only let your vet give your do his shots, in acurate recorded cause major problems, I've worked for a vet and training to be a vet tech. They need to know everything, even though more expensive they can even make sure that your microchipping is properly installed and working right, your vet might even register it for you or atleast have all paper work ready. I would call and ask about these things and then if you feel right let them microchip.

I get the lecture to, you feel like such a horrible dog owner when they tell you your dog needs to lose weight. I swear I don't even feed Fred that much he just is lazy sometimes and doesn't exercise.

If your vet offers you any weight loss advice, please share!

Alice you are so right dogs can suffer from all the problems that people can from being over weight. What food do you feed him?

Yeah, I would have to wake up Bob to take him walking. He wasn't all that energetic even when he was a puppy.

I feed him Canidae All Life Stages and he does great on it. I know why he is overweight, because evertime company comes over all Fred does is flash that "they are starving me" look and everyone feeds him, no matter how many times I ask them not to. My boyfriend is the worst, Fred hangs in the kitchen with him when he cooks and is the "tester".  Our weather has been horrible so they havent' been out walking or running much. Once the weather is nice and we start walking again and he and Alice run around the backyard I hope it falls off him.

If you have the room in your house the best thing in bad weather is one of those half size tennis balls, the ones they sell in two packs at wal-mart are perfect. If I cant take my girl out side I just sit in the floor and thorw it down our hallway, she will play like this till worn out. Also remind every one that certain food can poison you dog, onions are one of the worse, it will be hard but you can slowly get them off people food, playing with them is the best way to keep thier minds off from food ant any time of the day.

Fred is not a big tennis ball dog, he prefers stuffed animals and when the are destuffed he is done. Really the best playing he gets is with Alice, she is so much energy there are times when he can't ignore her and she makes him play.

Guy knows what he is giving him LOL, it's always meat!! When Guy is cooking nothing keeps Fred out of the kitchen, not even the rattle of the car keys! Once the weather breaks he will slim down, it happens every winter!

I've been tempted to get the cheaper shots at Petco BUT since I want my vet to keep all my dogs' records in a central location I've always taken them to him. Plus he exams them at the same time. It's just worth it to me.
