| Shannon: I have no idea. I know you'll call the vet first thing tomorrow. Any chance it's like a "pink eye" kind of film? |

Yes, the vet is the first call on my list in the am... His eye doesn't look irritated, just has this film and I can only see it in certain lights. He looks fine to me now but when he looked up at me in my kitchen, I could see it. My son saw it too. I'm trying not to worry but I can't help it. |

Catorax usually doesnt develop until later in a dogs life according to my parents vet. My Boston has it in the one eye she has but when my mom took her to the eye spceialist we found out her retina is detached so she is basically blind already and it wouldnt do any good to remove it. They also said that if they do remove it there is a chance that they could deveope Glaucoma which is painful so there was no use doing the surgury. I once thought Charlies eye looked a little cloudy but it was just from the angle I was looking from and he had goopy stuff in his eye. I almost called and made a vet appiontment for that too but Im glad I didnt cuz the vet would have thought I was crazy! |

Anything is possible. Sheesh! Yeah, maybe he scratched it. I just don't know. It's not running and he has no other injuries... He and Pepper wrestle all the time and they've both had scratches from being too rough. Maybe that's all it is... I'll see what the vet says.. I am so worried! |

| He could have a cold in his eye, and that is what you are seeing. Wipe his eye with a warm wash cloth and keep checking it for the film. If the film don't leave after you have wiped his eye then I would call the vet. |

This is so weird. Mario's eye looks normal again. Huh?? You all probably think I'm crazy! I'm still calling the vet in the am. Oh, I wish Mario could talk to me... sigh |

| I would go ahead and call the vet and maybe even take him in and have look at it...could be "goopy" stuff that's moved (kind of like human pink eye? - Can dogs get such a thing?) It'll at least relieve your worries, Shannon, to have the vet take a look. |

It's easy to be calm when it's not me I'd be freaking if it were I, though (and you would help calm me down) So it's all good. (PS: You don't want to have a cow....they poop A LOT ) |

Dogs can get "pink eye" type issue. Remember Max's eyes as a puppy. It was a form of pink eye and was left untreated so long he almost lost his eyesight. (for all you newbie's...it was not ME that left it untreated, I got him at five weeks old and the guy we got him from just honestly had no clue how to take care of puppies...I have since edumacated him!! ) Thankfully after almost a year of constant eye goop, creams, and antibiotics, he is fine. Maybe Mario just picked up some viral thing from the kids. |

Mario is too young for cataracts I would thing BUT I do know that humans are getting cataracts at younger ages now...so dogs probably are, too. But still not at a year. Humans who have been out in the sun without eye protection are prone to cataracts. My BIL had them in his early 40's and I had them at 48. |

Hey Shannon! How's Mario's eye today? If it looks blurry or cloudy again, I would get him checked out. That is how Mic's eye problems started. His right eye looked a little cloudy, so we brought him in to the vet and found out he had Kerititus. Now he's on drops for the rest of his life and his right eye is permanently scarred JMO, but if it looks cloudy again I would bring him in, even if its an injury these little guys have sensative eyes! But lets just hope he had sleepy eyes and its nothing! |

| I just saw this... I hope he is okay. I have thought Ratty was going blind for a couple of years now because in certain lighting his eyes look glazed with a white film. He has had checkups at the vet and she hasn't said anything was wrong with his eyes. It could be the angle and the lighting. Think about how your ratties eyes look in pics taken with a flash. It may be you saw that type of thing at an angle. I sure hope it is nothing. Waiting to hear... |

Okay, it's been a busy day.... Mario is FINE!! I'm so relieved! It must have been the lighting last night... no injuries and no cataracts... whew! You all must think I'm crazy... lol .... it just worried me to see his eye look cloudy. My husband cracked up at me last night... he looked at Mario's eye in the same position that I was seeing the 'film'... it was the reflection of our WHITE kitchen cabinets that was reflecting!!! OMG! I'm such a dork! We got Pepper to sit in the same position too and he had the 'film'.... it must have been the lighting because everything is fine. Call me a ditz! Pepper does have allergies and we've been giving him Benadryl. He's doing better and his hives are going away. So, they are healthy and silly and their mommy is even sillier! Thanks so much for all the concern. Ya'll are the best!! |

I have another eye question (sorry Im not posting a new forum..the website isnt letting me My little girl chloe has excessive tears. I have only had her about a week and my other rattie has never had this problem. Her prior owner took her to a vet at one point regarding her eyes and the vet said that it is often caused by allergies or a too small tear gland. Have any of you had experiance with this? I would like to start eliminating possible allergins (maybe in her food or something?? Im clueless) Any suggestions would wonderful!!! Thanks in advance. Brittany (chloe and clyde) |
