Back from the vet, Mitzy didn't need her anal glands expressed and she doesn't have any worms so we don't know why she was chewing her heiny.  Vet said she's very healthy but she does have luxating patellas in both knees......the knee joints pop out in both hind legs.  I already suspected that since she's always "skipped" once in a while.  He said as long as she isn't in pain then no treatment is necessary....and I've never noticed it to cause her distress so that's good.

Other than the knees she's a healthy rattie.

How old is Mitzy? My Ava has the same thing and does have pain on a rare occasion, but runs with the best of them without a problem. I will have to make sure she doesn't get overweight so it is less strain on her knees.

Poor Mitzy. I hope they stay the same and don't bother her. Could she just be chewing cause of her allergies?

If the patellas aren't "bad" (did he say what stage they are, Mary Beth?)... Mitzy will be ok especially if she doesn't do a lot of jumping. You've seen how badly Bailey skips....(I posted a video)... and his patellas are fine. So althought the skipping is a symptom of luxating patellas... it's not always conclusive.
Are you feeling ok with it?

Mitzy is 3 years old....and yes, he did say not to let her gain weight so I will be sure to watch that.

Nora, I've suspected this already so I was prepared (she has always skipped). He didn't say what stage they are (maybe he needs xrays for that?) but he said it was very minor. He drew a picture for me of what they do and did say xrays would show that more clearly but since it didn't cause her pain he didn't recommend xrays at this time. He's a good vet (he could said she needed xrays and gotten more money from me) so I'm comfortable with what he has said.

I just have to watch that she doesn't gain weight and give her regular exercise.

MB, my little Pom, Heidi, has luxating patellas on all 4 knees.  She wobbles around when she tries to walk or run like she is on rubber band legs.  It doesnt cause her any pain, though, and she gets around just fine---she just looks like a little drunk doggie!  She's almost 9 yrs old and has horrible epileptic seizures, but for the past 2 years her phenobarbitol meds have been keeping the seizures under control better than it ever has.  The vet said that surgery would be a BIG expense, and really unnecessary since she is still ambulatory and isnt in any pain---and besides, the epilepsy comes into play big time when considering anesthetics for her, so no surgery for her unless it would be a life or death matter.

Good to know that little Mitzy-pitzy is a happy, healthy girl!

LOL!! Nora! That also sounds like me! I have dislocated both of my knees so many times that I'm amazed they stay in place as well as they do, not to mention the deterioration from joint disease, and too much weight on them.

I hope Mitzy continues to do well with her knees. MB, if you guys ever come down to NC, Mitzy can do aqua therapy with me, no weight on the joints so you can get a really nice workout!!

Take  care
