Earlier this morning when I came back inside from letting my dog outside to go to the bathroom, I noticed when he rolled on his back that there was some white substance on the tip of his bladder (sorry not trying to be graphic). When I looked closer it looked like pus.

I instantly searched the web for symptoms of UTI in dogs. He hasn't experienced any of those. He does normally drink quite a bit and he squats when he relieves himself. I noticed when I first adopted him (about 2 months) that when he goes, he goes all at once. He goes for about 7-12 seconds. I go out with him about every 2 to 2.5 hours each day and I walk him twice each day.

But he hasn't experienced any of the other symptoms. All I've seen is what appeared to be pus on the end of his bladder, and much later today I've noticed the same end is a bit reddened. He isn't begging to go out. He doesn't appear to be experiencing pain when he goes. He isn't licking himself profusely. He is behaving normally except for those two possible symptoms.

Do I take him to the vet or do I just put a bit of cranberry juice in his water?

Any suggestions or helpful comments are more than welcome! Thank God for this wonderful site! I love my rat terrier, and am glad to have found this community!

Sincerely,

Has your dog been neutered? If not, this can sometimes happen. If it is yellowish-white it is called smegma. You usually don't see it in neutered dogs. Is it discolored? Green? If this continues and your dog has been neutered, or if it is an odd color, I would check with your vet - as it could be a sign of infection - either UTI or involving his penis.

If it is clearish or white or even yellowish then it's just natural stuff, nibbler gets it all the time, however if it becomes green, or you notice a very strong odor, then you need to go to yourvet.
