Ok, so I just switched my dogs food from purina dog chow to Natural Balance potato and duck.  They weren't too excited about it so I mixed in some of their other food and some wet food and then they ate it ok.  I know some of you here use Natural Balance and I read the ingredients and it seems like a high quality food.  Is it one that is recommended?  The reason I'm switching is because of her itchy irritated skin and flakes.  Someone told me it is prob the food she's eating.  I wanted to get that other brand Canidea (or however it is spelled) But I couldn't find it at the pet stores.  I suppose I need to look at the local feed stores.  Is that an even better food???

You made an EXCELLENT choice! Natural Balance is a much better food than Purina and I am sure you will begin seeing differences pretty soon!

I think you will be fine if you stick to Natural Balance....Canidae is a great food too. So either one would work.

The Potato and Duck is also considered their Allergy Formula so it may be a little more helpful with their irritated skin.

It's actually better than you gradually switch them over to the Natural Balance, so it's fine that you are mixing it right now for them. It will allow them to adjust to the new food easier without having upset tummy's.

Let us know how it goes!

Thanks morgan...I think I will stick with the Natural Balance then.  It is easier to find.  I will let you know how it goes with the skin troubles.

I think you will be happy with Natural Balance. I feed it to Bella sometimes.

Many dogs are allergic to corn and it can cause skin irritations like you are talking about and corn in the number one ingredient in Purina dog chow. So I have no doubt that their skin problems will improve after they have been eating Natural Balance for a little while. They will also probably eat a little bit less food because the ingredients are of better quality.

I feed our Silver Natural Balance also. The rescue we got her from was feeding her Pedigree and we gradually switched over to Natural Balance and she liked it. I'm happy that the ingredients are of such better quality!!

I give her Solid Gold beef jerky or lamb treats also. Even though it is expensive it got a very good rating on this website that someone previously posted:

Check it out, Teresa. Scroll down to the bottom to the reviews. It's very informative.

I'm feeding Natural Balance Duck/Potato right now and my dogs love it. Canidae is a very good food but they just weren't thrilled with it. The NB now has small bites for small dogs, too. And Mayfly has bad allergy issues but on the NB allergy formula her skin is much better.....she did have hives so I'm starting to suspect she can't eat any grains.
