So I'm considering getting another rat terrier who's 6 months old and 6 pounds.  Can anyone tell me how much bigger she'll get?  My baby now is only 7 pounds and I don't want a dog bigger than him, it may hurt his self esteem!  Just kidding.  But I'd like to know how large I should expect her to get.  Thanks guys!

And just to update with my now 9 month old baby:

It really just depends. Are you thinking of getting one from a breeder or rescuing? A breeder should be about to tell you about how big the dog will be, and with a rescue, it's usually just a guess. There are some smaller dogs on www.ratbonerescues.com, but I am not sure where you are located. They may or may not be close to you.

Rescuing.  But yes, I've checked, and they're all very far away from me, I'm in fort lauderdale, florida.

Mr Jack Goodboy male

2007-12-26

Location: Florida

My name is Mr. Jack Goodboy. Can you guess why? I am always very good when left alone in the house and do not chew up anything that is not mine. I am puppy pad trained and I will go potty outside when taken, but I don’t know how to let someone know when I have to go. I love, love, love attention! I will even make you pet me by rubbing my face in your hand. I’m not very needy or high-maintenance but I do enjoy my walks every day. I am not overly barky but sometimes I get frisky and bark at the cats in my foster home. (There are 8 cats here, so come on… wouldn’t you?) I don’t care for toys too much but I will pick up a toy every now and then. I don't mind other dogs but it does take me a while to warm up to new canine friends. I would NEVER bite but sometimes I will snap to let the other dogs in my home know that I don’t want to play. Since I'm a mature 7-year-old, I really prefer older, laid back dogs like my foster sister--we snuggle and sleep next to each other every night. Don't you have some extra love and attention for a sweet little (10 lb.) boy like me?

Mabelline female

2007-12-08

Location: Florida

Mabelline is absolutely precious and has the sweetest eyes. She is around a year old and doesn't seem to have seen much kindness in her short life. She has a sweet timidity about her and she has to warm up to you. Now that she is in fostercare, however, she had developed a bounce to her step and is learning that life is OK! Mabelline is about 12 inches tall and weighs about 12 lbs. She loves to fetch and bounds like a deer after her toys. She get along with cats and is completely housebroken. She a really sweet dog and would do well with a person who is willing to be patient and love on her a lot.

This dog is okay with:

cats

dogs

kids

If the dog weighs 6 lbs at the age of 6 months, it's highly unlikely he'll get any bigger.
Bailey weighed 9 lbs when he came to us at the age of 6 months. He turned 2 October 1st and still weighs 9 lbs.

Jack was about 7lbs at 6 months and has topped out now(over 1) at ~12-13lbs. Still little. Jeter is smaller and they get along wonderful! Good luck, your baby is beautiful! Very unique coloring.
