I'm so excited to get Corona into the water but I'm too afraid its a little early for her first bath. I've been using the puppy wipes every few days but when is she old enough for her first bath? Shes only 2 months old but because she plays with our other dogs she often smells like dog breath. Eww. Anyone know if its too soon?

I wouldn't think so, but I am certainly not the person to ask...

Chrissy is 7 weeks old and I was kind of wondering the same thing. I was going to wait a while since it is so cold outside. My luck she would just get out of the water and then need to go potty. Poor girl would freeze her toes off.

As soon as you possibly can, introduce them to the water. 7 weeks should be fine. Pepper got her first bath at 6 weeks. She's 8 months now, and she's not a water lover, but she does well in the tub. I don't have to hold her, she just stands there. She still has to potty as soon as it's over though.

My advice: First bath, keep it short. Just water in the tub, and wet her fur. Get her out and as dry as possible. Take right outside to potty. Carry if you have to, probably won't make it all they way through the house to outside. Come right back in and dry some more. The vigorous rubbing will help warm her right back up. Try to get her to cuddle in a blanket too.

If you can, introduce her to a hair dryer. We are just starting this now because of the cold. She's pretty good about it. Don't worry too much about drying her skin out, that's what groomers use to dry the fur. Just make sure you don't keep it in one spot too long, you don't want to burn the sensitive pups.

Pepper is SO adorable. Kinda wish Corona had the floppy ears lol. Thanks for the advice. I pray she loves the water! I'm not sure how Ratties are with that but I guess I can still hope.

Some like the water and some don't.  I've got one that despises the water.  He will tolerate a shower with me or a bath, but don't expect him to romp in streams or lakes or even puddles.  He hates getting his feet wet!

But, there are some people who say their ratties love the water.  (Lucky people, I might add...)

Welcome to you and Corona, she is soooo cute. My Bailey tolerates a bath, since I've had her, we've never been around a lake or pond so don't know if she would like it or not.

Sydney was just 11 weeks old when she discovered the lake.  Both  her and Sonic love to go in to lakes, rivers and they even have their own little pool.  We just mention bath and they jump into the bath tub.
