Seems that Lucy no longer can tolerate the food we where feeding her.  We where feeding her purina puppy chow without incident.  We bought her Beneful puppy food and she loved it.  Decieded to finish up the Purina and after that the sickness.  She ended up getting rid of all of that in the form of diareaha (in the back yard thank God!!!!) and started to feel better.  Put down the beneful and got rid of the purina and she inhaled it!  Started to drink water as well.  Also started to bounce off of the walls once again!  Didn't realize A) how changing a dog's diet effects them and B) how much of a drama Queen a Rattie can be!!!!

Thank you all for the advice.  I greatly appriciate it!!!

Glad she is feeling better! Just beware, Beneful is very low quality and has sugar and flavorings added to make dogs "love" it. Kind of like junk food for us.

Yes, Beneful is really LOW quality food so be careful, she may get sick again as many rattie can't tolerate the corn, sugar, wheat, preservatives and dyes in it! (Not just ratties but any dog!) And the chicken by product meal can be ground up feathers, beaks, etc.  It's mostly made up of fillers, look at all the grains.  Soy is another potential allergen.  And menedione has been shown to cause cancer in some animals, I believe it has been outlawed in Europe.

Your rattie may eat it better and not get sick BUT in the long term it's not healthy.

Look at the ingredients: http://www.beneful.com/Dog-Food/Original/Default.aspx#shown

INGREDIENTS
Ground yellow corn, chicken by-product meal, corn gluten meal, whole wheat flour, animal fat preserved with mixed-tocopherols (form of Vitamin E), rice flour, beef, soy flour, sugar, sorbitol, tricalcium phosphate, water, salt, phosphoric acid, animal digest, potassium chloride, dicalcium phosphate, sorbic acid (a preservative), L-Lysine monohydrochloride, dried peas, dried carrots, calcium carbonate, calcium propionate (a preservative), choline chloride, added color (Yellow 5, Red 40, Yellow 6, Blue 2), DL-Methionine, Vitamin E supplement, zinc sulfate, ferrous sulfate, Vitamin A supplement, manganese sulfate, niacin, Vitamin B-12 supplement, calcium pantothenate, riboflavin supplement, copper sulfate, biotin, garlic oil, thiamine hydrochloride, pyridoxine hydrochloride, thiamine mononitrate, folic acid, Vitamin D-3 supplement, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity), calcium iodate, sodium selenite.

Thank you very much for the advice!  Lucy will be a year old next month so I guess I'll pay more attention to the label when buying adult dog food for her.  Any advice on what brand is good for her?

I agree... not to be disrespectful or put down what you are doing... but many of the commercial-grade dogfoods are "junk". I feed Nature's Variety raw... and sometimes the Nature's Variety Salmon & Brown rice kibble... but limit the kibble. Several here feed Canidae which is a good food... and several others I'm sure will offer advice on good foods.

I use Natural Balance~ my dogs love it and I feel better about giving them healthy food instead of a low quality food...a lot of members use it also. There are several threads about dog food and which ones are high quality on this site.

Also you can check out http://www.dogfoodproject.com/ .  I'm feeding Natural Balance right now...some other good foods are:  Wellness, Solid Gold, Canidae, Innova, EVO, Merrick, and many others I can't remember.  What most of us on here have done is educate ourselves on ingredients and then buy food after carefully reading the label.
