At least for me it is!   How many of you have dogs whose eyes "run" ... and because of that the areas under their eyes are stained?  You see this a lot with white dogs... poodles...schnauzers...

My friend, who has taken every canine nutrition course in the world and is a distributor for Nature's Variety ... (I purchase my food and treats from her) told me to purchase some powdered buttermilk (in the baking aisle of most grocery stores) and sprinkle a little on the dog's food each night.  She said it also helps with pink stains on the legs of dogs who lick their legs & feet. She said that it neutralizes the bacteria that causes the staining. It's not an instant fix - the hair needs some time to grow out... but she swears it works!

Lil'Bit has always had "runny eyes", so I'm going to try it!

Also, am sharing with you the chart of dog/human years she gave me which is a little different from what I've always heard. I've always been told that 1 human year is equal to 7 dog years.  Turns out that is not very accurate, since dogs reach adulthood within the first couple of years.

So here's your bit of trivia to start your morning off with !

Age of Dog

"Human" Years

5 months

=

10 years

8 months

=

13 years

3 years = 28 years
4 years = 32 years
5 years = 36 years

7 years = 44 years
8 years = 48 years
9 years = 52 years
10 years = 56 years
11 years = 60 years
12 years = 64 years

23 years = 103 years
24 years = 106 years

Thank you for sharing that.... I am passing this on to my sister who has an english bulldog and she licks her legs all the time...   and it is pink.... poor girl,      Her dog is such a sweetie pie....   I always told her if she ever wants to give her up, to call me first.... i take her in a heartbeat..... and she and Kasey gets along great!!

and wow! that blows my mind on the age of the dog....  I thought the same thing too.... take their age and multiply by 7....   Kasey is almost the same age as me!  haha....

I haven't tried the dried buttermilk, but I intend to get some this weekend and give it to Lil'Bit. After talking with Leah about this, I did some research on the net.. and have found articles to validate what she has told me. I was also misinformed about the dog age thingie... I've been told all my life that a dog's age is 7 years for every human year...

...........and I thought I was so smart! Yeah right !!! Even at MY age I'm still learning things! haha

Zoey's white eye runs a little, but I constantly wipe her eyes with a kleenex or tissue. When she's got the lil pink around her eye, I just use a warm wet washcloth and they're gone. I probably wipe her face with a warm wet washcloth every other day.  I guess because Im always on top of her "white eye" by keeping it clean for her 6 years, it's never been "stained".

I think the other side of the dogs face is white around the eye... =)

I always thought 1 year = 7 dogs years as well. When I went to the vet's office I saw a chart like this and it has your dogs weight in there. The littler the dog the slower it ages (if that makes sense ) I think for Izzy's weight it was 1 year = 5 years.

I'll tell my mom about this. Her little poodle has the stains under his eyes and on his paws where he licks.

You could always take apple cider vinegar.  It's good for alot of things and good to have on hand.  It stopped Oscars UTI in a few hours. I take it every day myself.  I started when I needed it for cat allergies.

http://www.preciouspets.org/newsletters/articles/apple-cider-vinegar.htm

I've always heard that the calculations for dog years is:  year 1 = 12 years,  year 2=24,  every year after that=4 years.
