My vet had me give Brownie liquid Benedryl after his first shots; said to be sure to give it to him again 30 minutes before he gets his booster shots. Vet made it so easy, she marked a syringe for the level to give him.

Brownie loves the cherry flavour. And he just rests and sleeps afterward, which is a good thing since he gets so sore from the shots.

Hi, everyone. I'm pretty new to the group but have a pressing problem with my 8 year old rattie. She often eats cat poop while we're on our walks.  Yes, she is always on leash, but seems to have a talent for finding cat poop to eat!

She ate a rather large piece last night, on our late walk and now she is pretty sick.  She threw up a couple of times during the night but they seemed transient and minor to me.  Of course, now that my vet has closed she's throwing up more, even though I didn't allow her any food today.  This last vomit had bright red blood clots(?) in it.  I'm at a loss as to what to do now.  I know that canned pumpkin - not the kind for making pies - can be given to stop vomiting.

Does anyone have any advice?  I intend to get her to my vet when he opens at 7:30am...but is there anything I can do for her now?  Thanks in advance.

Gosh, just seeing this, hopefully you posted this also as a new thread?
Cat poop shouldn't make her vomit blood (lots of dogs eat cat poo). I'm assuming you've gotten her to a vet by now....please let us know what the vet said and how she is!!

I just wanted to say that under the Kaopectate labeling, it says 0.5-1 mg when I believe it is actually suppose to say 0.5-1 ml. I just looked at this after giving Mollie a dose and thought I had gave her 10 times the amount she should had. The measure cap that comes with the Kaopectate is in ml not mg and I thought I had gave her the wrong amount. So after panicking and thinking I had lost my mind and gave her too much, I googled it and found it is ml and not mg.

Just a programing note for crazy people like me. hahaha

Perhaps they were referring to the "pill" form vs the liquid form? Looks like pills are measured in mg and liquid in ml.

Thanks MB, that is what I was thinking but as I was on cold medicine myself and not thinking clearly I freaked out (to say the least) when I seen mg instead of ml. I got online to confirm my thoughts and see once site stating ml was 10 times the amount mg. I was thinking she may never go number 2 again. lol Luckily I found a website that confirmed the amount I gave.

Rocky has had runny poop for a week or so. Sometimes it's solid though so I haven't been too worried but I noticed mucus in it today? Most likely worms? We have an appointment for the vet on Thursday to get checked and possibly dewormed. We have grass planted on our balcony for him to use both upstairs and down. Do I need to change the whole lawn since he had worms or is it OK once he gets the medicine? He's just pooped on this grass quite a few times.

Thanks for the advice!

Nicole

P.S. I'm a new member and it won't let me post on here yet. I create a post and it looks like it goes thru OK then I never see it. Any ideas?

Hi Nicole! Don't know about the new posts but about the poop....yes the runny poop and mucus could be worms but it also be other things like giardia, simple irritation from something he ate or other things. Your vet should do a complete check on him for parasites, viral/bacterial infection, etc. Could even be the food he's eating. (What does he eat?)

I would guess that if it is worms you might have to change out the grass but I'm not sure. I've had foster dogs come in with worms and we sure didn't replant the lawn but maybe a smaller area is different. Now, if it's tapeworms then those come from ingesting fleas so that's another thing.

Let us know what the vet says, ok? For now if he has diarrhea/mucus you might want to totally rest his digestive system for 12 hours and then give plain fat free yogurt and/or white rice. Easy on the tummy!
