Hi all, just today I took in a small female rat terrier that has been hanging around my neighborhood for a week or so, with no collar. She is a beautiful little dog and in good shape, so right now I am thinking she has an owner looking for her. I have made flyers and posted an ad on craigslist, and tomorrow I am taking her to my vet to have her scanned for a chip.
She is so cute and sweet, hopefully she has a home, if not, I'll take it one day at a time. Not sure how long I will be able to keep her, but I won't let her end up in a shelter. I have three dogs already, so I may end up looking for a rescue for her if no one claims her. Any help or advise about these dogs is appreciated. |

These dogs are very very full of love and are particularly smart. I would test out commsnds to see if she has any training, which would be able to tell you if she had an owner that trained her. Taking her to get scanned is a very good idea, let's hope that she is scanned and does have a home. I'm sending good thoughts your way, and for her. If you don't find an owner and you don't want to or can't keep her (just watch you ill be very tempted because these dgs are so loveable) you can try contacting ratbone rescues. at www.ratbonerescues.com and hopefully someone will be able to help. They are a wonderful rescue organization and a few of their foster parents are members here. What part of the country are you in??? Welcome and feel free to ask anything you need to know. |

I know, I'm already in love with her...so cute! She is house trained, appears to be anyway, and sits. And hops around everywhere, like on my table. And I am in Georgia, btw. |

Well there seems to be alot of Rattie lovers in Georgia from around here. Ratties are very agile, and are known to be able to get up great heights despite their tiny size, plus they are very good at melting hearts. There are a few of the ratbone foster homes in Georgia, so they might be able to help if you can't find her home and she doesn't bacome yours...lol. One thing about ratties is they are very eager to please and very smart, so they catch on quickly if you want them/ or don't want them to do something...lol. Keep us updated with te details of what happens with her. |

| Welcome to the group, B&B. Gee, she sounds adorable. Can you post a pic? So nice of you to take her in and try to find her rightful owners. Maybe you'll be able to find her rightful owners, but if not, I'm sure you & she will bond fast. Ratties are like that. |

Blacknblue,
I am the Georgia State Coordinator for Ratbone Rescues. If you can email me the pics and let me know where exactly in Georgia you are that would be awesome! I'll also ask more questions. If you don't find her family maybe you can do what we call GAP - Guardian Assistance Program where you basically act as the foster parent and Ratbone helps you find her a forever home.
My email is smiles4lifepkn@yahoo.com I live out towards the Mall of Georgia.
Thanks for taking this rattie girl in and posting here for assistance! |

Smiles, I'll email you. I have more pics and I would be willing to foster her if her family doesn't turn up. I haven't seen any temperament issues so far, I have kids, cats, and other dogs, and she's fine with all that. |

Oh! She is just BEAUTIFUL! One of my greatest fears is Yaz running off one day. She has a chip but what if she didn't get scanned? I'm sure someone is missing her. So sad. Thank you blackandblue for taking care of her. Look out....she'll worm her way right into your heart when you're not looking. |

She's beautiful and sounds like she was definetly someone's baby since she is well behaved. I know if my Daisye or Ed got out I would want someone like you to find them so that they would be in good hands until their return. Speaking of, my Daisey did somehow slip out the gate today when i was taking Ed for a walk and she ran down the street with my old, fat self trying to catch her. Note: human can't outrun rat terrier. She is chipped, of course, but it is terrifying when your inside dog gets out.

I haven't found her owner yet, but I'm going to keep looking a little longer. I had her scanned but she had no chip, my vet also said she is very young. She's a love bug, really cute, she's been sleeping in bed with me at night...I just can't believe she was wandering out like that, and I feel really terrible because it doesn't seem like anyone is looking for her. She has some good options though if an owner doesn't turn up, so she'll be ok. I'll keep you all posted. |

I wish I could keep her, I'm not sure I could really afford to long term though. My husband and I are hard core dog people, and we would feel really bad keeping her if we couldn't give her the best care possible. Honestly I want to keep her, but I'm trying really hard to do the right thing. It'd be alot easier if I found a really ugly dog.... |

She looks like she is a sweetie!!! I'm glad you are able to keep her until you find her family. Savanna was a street dog too. When I found her she had no chip, and no one responded to the fliers or ads I posted. She's still here, (2 1/2 years later! ) and I can't imagine not having her!! Good luck! |

Guess who's going into foster care?! Stacey is bringing this sweet girl over tomorrow night for Ratbone to find her a loving forever home. She will be my foster girl =) This will only be my 2nd girl out of 8 foster ratties. So it will be good to have another girly in the house.
As you know I will keep you posted on her progress and pictures!
Its nice to have people like Stacey who find these needy ones and make sure they are safe! |

Update: the rattie girl Stacey found is part of the Nowak pack now. She is very timid and sweet and loves attention. She demands it! She is getting along with the rest of the pack, but seems to want to get outside so I will be taking her for a long walk/run tomorrow to help with possible anxiety.
Here photo album has been started: www.imageevent.com/rattiemom/danica
We named her after the Indy car driver Danica Patrick.
I will start a new thread when I know more about her and photos. |
