We are new Rattie parents, is it common for puppies to have one ear stand up and one ear flop over, she is almost four months old, and I must admit she is pretty cute, but we were just wondering...........

Ears on Ratties pretty much do whatever they want to.  My Lucy has both ears down ("button ears"   but occasionally will stand them up---one or both--or will fling them out sideways in a "Flying Nun" fashion.  Your pup is probably going through "Ear Wars" and it's hard to tell what the final answer will be right now!  One up and one down is very cute, and gives them character!

<----just noticed in my avatar, her ears are trying to stand!  This is NOT how she normally looks.

Lucie is adorable, as is her furry friend in your avatar, thanks for the quick reply.

Correct conformation (to the breed standard) as I understand it, is they should be either both up erect, or both buttoned... Bailey's isn't "correct" cuz most of the time he has one to go up and one to go down... at night they are both buttoned (weird).. It doesn't really matter to me whether he's "politically correct" or not though! Your furbaby is adorable!

My Julia's ears are different day to day... One day they're both up, one day both down, the next day one up and one down...she is 8 months old and has "papers"...her ears are so adorable to me!

Their ears seem to go according to their mood...Molly's ears are cute buttons when she is VERY sleepy, half up when she's normal, and upright when she's being mischievious. Lucy's don't really have a set pattern like her sister, but they are ALWAYS up at dinner time. hmm...

haha...when I first got Cookie at 5 mos her ears both stood up. Not long after though one decided to flop down....and it's been like that ever since. She's 2 1/2 now. I love her ears like that...always get comments on how cute they are. OH..and yeah they do the flying nun thing, too..heehee.

Sydney's ear are mainly button but could have one prick and one button.  Sonic has prick ears but the tips will sometimes bend over backwards (looks really funny when they do).

And then some adults continue to have one ear up & one ear flopped down (known as button ears) as Button, in my avatar. Disqualifies them from being shown in the ring, but we think it gives her silly "character". LOL

Bob's ears are usually up, unless he's very tired, and he tunes them in like satellite dishes so he doesn't miss a thing.

My rattie's ears are button most of the time.... flying nun sometimes too. However when he is just cuddling in bed or on the couch they are up. The ears are so funny.
