First off I am Aleah, I am a new girl  I hae been reading these posts and I can't help but laugh and think of my own lil girl Cleo, short for Cleopatra. She is almost a year old and a pain in the keester but I love her more then anything.  lol I will add my own story of how I got her on the correct post, HOWEVER, I have a important question...... I can't find a good collar and or harness for her, I have tried a few and they all seem to rub her and leave huge nasty red marks on her chest or neck , I am sure she is either allergic of I am just not getting her the right type for a RT, any suggestions, I found a good website but before I order her one I would like to know what you all think, I have to take back the now 3 set ( collar& harness)  back to petsmart, who they have no clue what to tell me. I have pictures I am going to bring... last time they thought I was smokin something when I told them what they do to her... anyways any suggestions would be great and very much appreciated.

Congrats on joining our crew! If you look in the training section there is a thread on harness. I don't know if it will help or not but you can give it a try.

Welcome Aleah & Cleo!  I havent had a 'rubbing' problem with collars or harnesses with my Lucy, but I have a couple of Puppia harnesses I use with her, and they are soft and a little padded.  Some people like the Puppia harness, and some people dont.  I happen to love them!  There may still be a thread posted on here somewhere about the problems that some people have had with Puppia harnesses, but I have never had a problem with them.

Also, if her hair gets rubbed off just from having the collar on (not from pulling on the leash) you could try a rolled leather collar - PAUL suggested this to me when I had this problem. Never got around to getting to one though.

Thanks everyone, I happen to think she is pretty cute too! I will look into the Puppia ones, or a leather one, someone else told me if the leather got wet it would do the same thing, then agan she would have to like to go out in the rain for it to be a real issue that is a whole nother converstaion though lol. The Lupine collars do the have a soft back on them or it just the nylon kinda thing? I have used the just nylon ones and they are the ones to rub her, I will post a pic so you can see where it rubs her. Thanks so much for the warm welcome and for the suggestions

Hi Aleah and Cleo!!

Welcome! I too have a problem with Aka and wearing collars. I had a pretty collar but it rubbed a spot where he was already having problems. Right now, he is only a little over 5 months so I am not putting a collar or harness on him in the house. I do not feel this is optimal however, in case he were to get outside without me.

I got a Lupine harness and collar and he wears those when we are going to the vet or out and about. He isn't real thrilled with putting them on.

I have used the soft rolled leather collars for another dog and they did a nice job of not rubbing the fur. Plus he wore a harness when we went for walks but he didn't pull.

Still training Aka.  Looking forward to hearing more about you both and seeing lots of photos in the ratties photo forum!!
