is there an organization (rescue, adoption, sitters, etc.) that exists that will keep a pet for you for a time (from a couple weeks to a month or so)? if you pay them a fee and provide food? someone that loves pets and will take good care of them but not a shelter that you have ot surrender them to?
thank you.
guess i should have added in the Dallas-Fort Worth area - and somewhere you can visit your pet regularly. |

| I don't know of such a place. You might have more luck trying to find a pet sitter or a nice kennel. Are you still having problems with your landlord thinking your rattie is a pit bull? |

| I believe there are usually kennels/boarders that offer long-term services especially in larger cities. Why? Do you need this service? |

You might be able to find a pet sitter that would be willing to keep the dog in their home, that might be better for a long term solution than a kennel. Does the dog need to be out of your home 24-7, or just while you are at work/out of the home? |

| I would also suggest a sitter and not a kennel situation. Some dogs do very badly in that kind of situation! |

Yes, apparantly our complex does not accept pharaoh hounds (what the SPCA listed her as) because they are bred to chase prey. and the same for rat-terriers. she is adamant the dog goes ASAP, and has reluctantly given me a couple days. and looked at me like i was crazy for asking the buyout terms of my lease. she couldn't believe we'd choose moving over just getting rid of ginger. problem is, we need to find a place that will take ginger. that could take a litte time. and we are being too picky about where we're moving, it seems landlords have gotten pickier. and not for good reason, i do understand. also, we are financially strapped due to a family death we helped pay for and moving somewhere takes money up front, just to submit applications. and rent is due in a couple days, so we either need to pay rent for another month or get out, but we have no where to go.and guess what else? my husband is not getting a paycheck today, because his company can't make payroll!
i don't know when all their rules changed at my complex, it used to be so easy going because it was privately owned, i heard there were new owners. so, we were trying to find a place that could take her for a short term if we paid a fee and supplied food. and we'd want to be able to see her as much as possible. we hate for her to be stuck in a cage. i knew it was a long shot, but figured it couldn't hurt to ask.
thank you all for your responses. i didn't sleep all last night and i'm fighting back tears all day, i don't want anyone at work to know i cry! |

There are boarders, such as the one here that do offer long-term boarding. And it appears it's not a kennel situation - but more like a home atmosphere: http://www.companionk9.com/index.html . I just wanted to say how sorry I am about your situation. Call me crazy, but don't most dogs chase prey? I thought that all dogs were hunters, to some extent. Highpower, I hope you find a place soon. I'll keep and ginger in my prayers. |

That is great news on the new place. FYI for your current landlord. ALL dogs are carnivores. ALL carnivores IN THE WILD either hunt prey or starve to death. Therefore ALL dogs instinctively hunt prey if the need arises. Some people are beyond ignorant. |

you know, i thought the same thing and so did everyone else i told that to - all dogs hunt prey!! DUH! the current landlord is calculating my lease buyout, we will have to pay to get out, i'm just scared at how much. i fell in love with my husband all over again, because he said we'd live in our truck before ginger goes anywhere! in his words - "love us, love our ginger!" |
