I dunno how to trim Ami's nails and I'm worried about them. They look a little long and I don't even know if her last owner did it. I've never seen her last owner do that and she was my sister. I heard that, if not cut, that the blood vessels can grow into a dogs nails.

What do I do?

I asked God for someone that I could take care of,
I then went out and got a cat.
I lost the cat.
Disappointed I gave up on getting a pet.
God then sent a Rat terrier to me,
And she let's me know how much she loves me everyday.

You can get dog nail clippers at any pet store...just be sure not to cut them too short. If her nails are white, it will be easy to see the 'quick'...if they are black you will just have to be a little more careful. If she is not used to having her nails cut it will probably be difficult to do by yourself. You may need someone to help hold her and entertain her while you cut the nails. Or you could always just take her to a groomer or vet...they don't charge much for a nail clipping.

As far as the blood vessel thing goes...The longer the nail gets, the longer the blood vessels can extend into the nail which just means you won't be able to cut her nails as short.

My dogs hate having their nails trimmed- I don't even try anymore. I just take them to PetSmart.
