I am going to San Diego to run the Rock and Roll Marathon that is this Sunday....  Yeeeaahhh that will be fun.

What will not be fun is Scout will have to stay in a Kennel for 7 days.  I checked it out and it is super clean very nice people.  Highly recommended.  The runs are half indoor air conditioned half outdoor with a doggy door.

Scout is always with me.  At work home and play.  I am so worried about him.  I am going to leave one of my shirts with him.

I need some words of encouragment.  Running the Marathon is going to be easier than leaving Scout!

When I had to leave my poodle for the first time, the vet allowed me to call and check on him almost daily and NEVER made me feel goofy about it. Maybe you could ask the kennel owners if you could do the same. Make sure that you take one of your shirts or towels for scout...that way he has your scent with him!

San Diego eh?! I haven't heard about that marathon... But have fun! Where is it at exactly?

And don't worry about Scout, as long he has some familiar items with him he'll be fine. To bad Mic isn't sociable with other dogs yet, I would have loved to doggie-sit while you were here!

kimrose,
AHHHHHH that was sweet. I will be leaving Scout here in Corpus Christi, TX. The Marathon is the Rock and Roll Marathon. Real big one. I have been training here in 80 and 90 degree temps with 100% humidity. I am lookeing foreward to running in your temps of 60 to 70!!!!
Brandy, Thanks for the info. I am planning on leaving a t-shirt of mine with Scout. I am trying not to let him feel my anxiety. I know it will be fine. Oh I will be calling everyday that is for sure!!!!

Scout will be fine. It will be harder on you! I've only been away from Savanna for one day/night. It made me crazy, and my Mom stayed with her!!!!

Good luck in the marathon!

Scout will have a great time making lots of new friends! When you drop him off- DO NOT look back as you leave (that's more for you than him)

Have a great marathon, if you start feeling anxious, just think of what a great greeting you will get when you get home.

I'm a great big baby about leaving my baby.

I hear ya Beach...
Before I got Sassy, I was working on a house in post winter, early spring..
I wore a sweatshirt everyday for a week..
Then cut it up in a blankie size piece of flannel...
when Sassy came home I gave her that piece of flannel.. she still has it in her toy box. she is now over a year old...

and we HAVE to get away from the fur kids once in a while..

We had to leave Scout at the Kennel yesterday evening. Our flight is early this morning. You can't drop off befote 8am. It was so sad. I went in the kennel and made sure he figured out the dog door since it is diferent from ours. My husband called him to the outside part and I left. I could not tell him good bye...
Poor little guy he is probably thinking we will never come back..
I left a shirt from me and my husband for him and lots of toys. The people at the kennel are very nice.
He will be fine,,,, I miss him already.

I'm gonna have to leave my Bailey next week and I have worried about it for over two months. I'm glad I found out about leaving one of my shirts with her. I'm still gonna call two or three times a day and worry about her till I get back home. She is so spoiled and I just hope she will be ok.

Kimrose thanks for asking.

The Marathon was Awesome 21,400 runners. Lots of people running in Elvis costumes. This was my 3rd Marathon and best one yet. Very well organized and at the end they treated me like a Queen. We finished in the Marine Depot. They had iced down Rocka and Roll Marathon Towels. Tons of food. Spenco Sandals for everyone. Michelob Ultra Beer for all the runners. It was a beautiful course but hilly for this flat lander! The Temps could not have been better. I stopped once in awhile and danced in front of the bands. When we would go through neighborhoods people were outside handing out oranges, watermelon, candy and water and cheering us on! Funny thing my GPS quit working at mile 2 just froze up! Would not even turn off. So I did not know my pace. Otherwise I would not have taken it easy and would not have had so much fun. I finished in 4:23:11 and with lots of fun memories. Will think of doing it again next year. Hey also while I was there we went to seethe exibit Bodies........CREEPY!!!!!!!!! Love San Diego but not the traffic!

Well I'm glad you had fun!! Yeah, that is a hilly course... they use the same course for a few different marathons. I heard about the concerts/beer/freebies... that is so awesome! I might have to check this out for next year

And I can't believe you went to see the exibit bodies!!! ewww!!! Your are brave! I was going to but then just couldn't do it... that stuff creeps me out!!!

When I went on my family vacation, we had to leave our 'babies" in a kennel, even though they are family! The kennel they were left at, had internet access,so I could personally see them via internet 24/7 if I wished to( which of course, I did...not 24/7 though). They were spoilt rotten at that kennel, so it was like a vacation for them. Maybe your kennel does something similar to that? Also, think of the kennel as a vacation for your dog, if it helps?
