My blue rat terrier seems to be developing blue doberman syndrome.

Can anyone reccomend a good shampoo product or something that could help with his patchy skin? I'm taking him to the vet on wednesday, but hes got these poor little bumps on his neck and a few mothy like spots - similar to what ive seen online as a symptom.

Hes almost all blue, poor things gonna have zero hair in a couple years!

I have a blue and white boy who have been suffering from demodex mange. Thats all I know about. He is on Ivermectin. Sorry I am not more help but I think there are members who have blue babies with skin issues....seems like theyre so sensitive!!

Also, WELCOME and cant wait to see pics of your baby!!

Nora is blue---the story on blues is that they are supposed to be okay for the most part if both their parents are NOt BLUES---(I could not bear to hear anything different--I researched before I got Nora---She only had one Grandparent with some blue-the rest are normal

That said I have been very vigilant about her skin any way--she had some bumps on her head and they lost some hair and I went to Vet --- he said it was VER"Y common Puppy Pyoria and was not directly related to blue--I told him how concerned I WAS-- I went in a week later and he agreed I should take care of it and she is on antibiotics for a month---She seems to be getting better but is not perfect. I might have added to the probelm by "picking" on the first bump---

Cupcake--do you know the parentage of you blue pup???? I hope it is some minor thing--my Nora is 80 percent blue as well

good luck

poor baby. if it does end up being because of the blue coloring, let the breeder know...they're supposed to do testing on the parents to make sure that kind of thing doesn't happen...have to be very careful and responsible when breeding for the blues.

good luck! I hope it isn't anything serious. let us know what the vet says.

I have a blue rattie...and I hate to say it but both of his parents were blues. He will be 3 in Jan and so far we havent had any problems. He is really sensitive to shampoos but other than that he is okay. Please keep us informed on your baby and welcome to the site...you will LOVE it her. By the way what little I saw from the video your ratties sure is a cutie!! I would love to see more pics

Well, here is the thing that sucks. . . i don't know much about him

I bought him for 100 dollars off of a lady i ran into at a grocery store. I saved his little life, as she was picking up a few things then sending him off to the pound. She never mailed me any paperwork, though she said he was UKC registered, and his brother was pearl. So im assuming there was a lot of sketchy breeding going on wherever she got him.

Other then this random skin condition thats just popped up, hes in perfect health. Will never pass up a cookie or a piece of cheese, and will walk for miles and miles. Hes 2 years old, at least according to what the randomly lady puppy killer told me.

I've tried to contact breeder after breeder, but ive never found out who his parents were, or where he came from. . . and the lady is nowhere to be found either.

So here is he, poor old orphan blue with a funky skin condition. It doesnt seem to bother him, but it just looks weird, bumps and white spots and dark spots and baldness. He looks and feels like a seal all the way down his spine now, and sweats (i dunno how) like no other if left under a blanket too long.

Welcome! I have 2 blues also and my one blue who is very healthy actually had what you seem to be describing as a pup. It may not be color dilution alopecia. Blues in general (any dilute actually) are more prone to skin issues. Sounds like you may have a bacterial infection. It usually starts as small "bumps" them can progress to patchy fur and hair loss. I used an anti-bacterial cream and shampoo on Jeter from my vet. It took almost 6 months to grow back and since then he has been fine. Larger areas may require oral antibiotics. I would speak to your vet about it. Could be anything, but I would try treating for bacterial before assuming the worst. Keep us posted and let us know how he is.

Sorry he's having issues! Thanks for possibly saving his life though! Our dog Radar has shampoo issues and the oatmeal is very soothing.

Mel, Jeter was the one I was describing that had a bacterial infetion on his head. That cleared up after some time and he is very healty. Jack, my other blue, was diagnosed with CDA and also some lupus-type autoimmune disease. Multiple issues with him.

That is so interesting, cause Jeter is Nora's "twin" and I just had her head treated for a bacterial infecton!---it has seemed mostly cleared up and the tufts of hair seem to be growing back. Sorry to hear that Jack had medical issues He does look great in the foto though
