Coincidentally I was checking out the Pets Forum on another site and came across a posting from a woman who is going to have her kitten spayed. This is a breakdown of the vet charges--unbelievable! Pre-op CBC and Chem = $90 Anesthesia = $106 Anesthetic Monitoring = $32 IV Catheter and Fluid Drip = $41 Hysterectomy = $98 Injection: Pain Med = $34 Post-Op Pain Management Injection = $28 Total = $429 Who can afford this, or are only rich people supposed to be able to have pets? That is so true...Only the rich. I bought a $35.00 Certificate to get a dog fixed that we found. I finally found a vet that would take it, but it took me a while. Most of the vets on the provider list required up-to-date shots ($40), blood work ($25) and Heartworm testing ($25). Huh? Why bother with the certificate. I'm not a medical provider, but can't vets get a right off for any money lost by fixing animals at an inexpensive rate. I would like to hear from the other side. |

| I get my vac. from the feed store and do them myself. You are in Washington right? Heartworm my a$$ I know there have been a few cases of it but I am thankful we really don't have a problem with it here. Blood work is just something to charge ya for very unnecessary in a healthy young dog. I think most of the new vets really do not know what they are doing and will get ya for every thing they can. Like you said it is an outrage! |

| That's great to hear about the heartwarms. Somebody told me before I moved here a year ago that there weren't any mosquitoes. I was psyched, but I found out differently once I got here. We have not had fleas or ticks. Yeah! I know we will have to shell out the dough because I can not have a dog not fixed (principle). Unfortunately it will take us a little longer. It's nice to know others feel the same way. |

| After reading this I was curious what our vet will charge to spay Nala in 4 months so I called and asked. If they are under 25 pounds it is $220-250, which Nala will be less than that, but it was still a shock. They gave me the run down on the meds, overnight stay, etc and that is the price they quoted me. I guess I had better start saving now. |

Oh my goodness... I guess it must have gone way up... when I adopted Sophie from the shelter, her adoption fee was $85. That's there normal fee for all dogs. That covers shots, spaying/nuetering, heartworm testing, and microchipping. Sophie was already spayed when she was brought in, but she needed a teeth cleaning so they substituted the teeth cleaning for the spay so I still only had to pay $85. I think you can get spayed around here for about $65. Seriously, that means they're charging melo TEN TIMES as much. I wish travel wasn't so expensive. Maybe we could get your animals spayed in South Carolina. lol. |

$420 later and my "free" pooch is neutered. That also included his microchip, but they had a special that month and $35 of the $420 was for that... the rest was all for the neuter. Gotta love NY!! thank goodness for CareCredit....jeeeeeze!!
