First of all...Hi my name is Rachel. I have a new Rat terrier that we got this weekend. She is 1.5 yrs old and her name is Chica ..she is so muh fun for us and gets along great with my boxer..does circles around him..it is funny! My cat is not amuzed though. Chica can not leave her alone. The cat has claws. She will listen when I say leave it but still sneaks back when i am not paying attention. She is really weel trained ..knows sit, down, roll over, high five,dance..leave it , drop it and also likes to fetch. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance Rachel |

| What does the cat do when Chica attempts to "play" with her? And is she playing with her or being aggressive. |

| Sorry Racheal, can't help ya. Savanna still likes to terrorize my cats. Most of the time they don't seem to mind. It's a love/hate thing with them. Savanna loves to play with them, they hate it when she does. Fortunately, the cats can take care of themselves and Savanna knows when to back off. They do play 'nice' together once in a while when the cats are in the mood. |

If Chica is simply attempting to play with the cat and the cat isn't overly aggressive, I would let them attempt to work it out by themselves (with you present). I have 2 dogs, including a rattie, and 2 cats, with claws. Daisy, the rattie, loves to play with the cats and the boy cat will "box" with her and smack her with his paws, but with claws not out.
Daisy has been swatted a couple of times with their claws, but as a warning and not seriously. She has quickly learned when they are receptive toward her and when they are not |

I don't think it is agressive, she is such a good natured dog, i think she is just trying to play. The cat is not amuzed and will swat and just begs to go outside. I just don't want my cat to get upset. But, i guess the best thing is to just keep working on it and to make sure she has a safe quiet spot in the house to escape to so she doesn't feel like she has to go outside all the time.
Thanks and nice to meet you all. |

| I would give them some time and make sure the cat has access to areas not available to Chica, like perhaps one of those kitty climbing things with a perch at the top or a kitty door into another room. Also, Chica is obviously smart (as they all are) so you could try putting her on a leash and correcting her when/if she goes after the cat and using a command like "no kitty" |

She is 1.5 years old and a couple had to find her a new home. The husband is leaving for Bahrain and she is moving in with family, so I was happy to tkae her. we were looking for a small dog that will be good with the kids and my other dog ..petey ..he is a boxer. I think it is a good match. |

| Hi and welcome to the family! I have a rattie and a cat too. It took about 2 weeks, VERY LONG weeks, before the cat would even be in the same room with Abby. And now they don't play together but have learned to tolerate each other pretty well... They actually lay within 3 feet of each other now with no problem. Good luck and please keep us posted! |

I have 2 cats and a rattie. The oldest cat let my rattie know from Day 1 that she was not going to play. She hissed and swatted. The other kitty wanted to play at first and now can't stand Tinkerbelle. Lily, the cat, is under constant attack, but they are just playing. Once Tinkerbelle did get scratched on the nose, so Lily let her know to back off. Also, just like puppies playing, if Lily cries out, then Tink will back off. When I'm in the front yard doing yard work or something, I put Tinkerbelle on a lead. Lily loves this and will circle around Tinkerbelle at just the right distance so Tinkerbelle can't get her. It's hilarious because the cat is all arched like a Halloween cat and she runs around sideways just Tinkerbelle. It's quite the dance. Give them time, they should work it out!
I can't post pictures on my replies for some reason, but i think you must be able to post in the photo section. I'll post some pics of them there! |

| I've got 4 dogs and 2 cats (with claws)....they work it out amongst themselves usually. Mayfly mostly plays with Luna, the psycho cat...she plays a lot with her and sometimes when Luna doesn't want to. But both cats can get to places the dogs can't and it all works out. |

Welcome! I can't wait to see pictures of Chica! Jerry and my cat Lucy also have a love/hate relationship. Jerry loves Lucy and is just really curious about her. He wants to play with her like she is a dog and wrestle, chase and sniff. Lucy tolerates Jerry, but I think that she likes him a little bit because she teases him. He will be minding his own business and she'll walk past him, meow and then take off running. When he finds her, then she'll yowl and box him, but she does this all the time! I think she actually likes having him chase her! |
