evidently my little pixel stepped in some gum at some point. She has it caked with dirt between her pads in the hair. It seems like it hurts her when i tried to get it off. I got her to let me soak the paw in water and use shampoo and got some off. Then i very carefully clipped away some hair with a small pair of sissors. It does seem like its gotta be somewhat painful because it appears to be pulling on the hairs between the pads. Does anyone have a better suggestion for removing the rest? I tried nail polish remover and she freaked out and it was all I could do to wipe it off. |

| I have heard that peanut butter will work to help remove it. ??? I've never tried it myself, though. |

I have heard that you can use vinegar, and it supposedly dissolves it. But I think that might be a little bit of a long process, so I'm not so sure it would work for a dog unless your dog is patient with you too! I have also heard the peanut butter thing though! GOOD LUCK. |

Looks like olive or canola oil might work too --- similar to peanut butter. Rub it in and let it soak for 15 -20 minutes then brush/pull out the gum. Not sure what would happen with trying to rub Daisy paw down with peanut butter and keep it on for 15-20 minutes !!!!! LOL. Good luck. |

I cant brush and Pixel goes into a tizzy if I pull. I guess I will just see if she will tolerate me cutting some more out tonight otherwise I will have to wait for the hair to grow out or something. I swear if I ever see someone spit or throw their gum on the ground Im going to punch them in the face then pick up the gum and rub it in their hair. I also recently stepped in a huge wad while walking to my car from work and I was in a huge rush! GRRRR |

| Well, I have a similar problem. When I stopped at the meetup place yesterday (where I met up with Yogis Mom to deliver Wulfie) Mitzy and Mayfly both got some gum on them. I can't get it out! Mitzy has it on her wittle tummy and butt and Mayfly on her heiny. Tried alcohol but that didn't work. Pooh. |

My mom always used lighter fluid to dissolve chewing gum on carpet. I would think you could try that and then wash the paw well with soap to remove any fluid residue. I also Googled and found this discussion on the topic on e-how. A few replies down one lady used olive oil on her dog with success.

| I'd try the veg/olive oil first since it won't hurt the dog if they happen to ingest some. Good luck. |

| Peanut butter does work, used to use it on my kids hair, but I think it's the oil in it that does the job. One thing about using the oil, either olive or peanut, it won't hurt your baby if they lick it. |

i work in a a petco grooming salon and when a dog comes in we use this stuff its called "sho hi lights" it is an orange stuff, im not sure whats in it but im sure you can get it at any petco or petstore, and itsw just used for sticky stuff. i had a dog come in the other day actually and she had stepped in gum, and that took it right out. if anyone has a dog that is prone to accidents like this, it might be handy to have around the house |

| I got all the gum off Mitzy with olive oil....used that because it wouldn't hurt her if she licked it afterward. Worked really well! |
