We are thinking of purchasing an RT and am wondering if the colorings of the breed changes as they get older? We are looking at a 4 month old male with a black & brown face and white body. What is the possibility of that changing? Thank you in advance.

I don't think the coloring/markings change too mcuh as they get older (other than the face going grey as they get older like any other breed). My black tri has some brown through her black, which started showing up around 3 - 4 months of age, but since the dad had the same thing, and she was marked just like him, I kind of expected that. The coloring on her face, however, has stayed the same. Ratties also get ticking on their skin...basically freckles...some have just a few, others have tons.

I don't think the basic coloring on your pup should change much but he might get ticking on the white...maybe a lot, maybe not!

What you are seeing in terms of coloring at this point is what you get with the exception of ticking.  Ticking is black spots on the dogs skin.  Those become more pronounced in the summer and appear less visible in the winter.  When the dog gets older he/she will go gray in the face (just as humans get gray hair, so do ratties).
