Rip is 5.6 lbs at 11 weeks old.  The "breeder" (and I use that term very loosely) stated that he would not be over 10 lbs at full growth.  Having only ever had large dogs before, I have no experience in estimating what Rip's full size might be based upon his current size.  Thanks to Tracey's post (www.rat-terrier.com/Home/tabid/37/forumid/4/postid/91419/view/topic/Default.aspx) regarding Class A & B Ratties, I can safely say that Rip has a Class B body type, if that helps.

I am only curious in a possible size estimate so that I can plan things like buying a soft tote that won't be too small when he's fully grown.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Wanna hear a funny story? Amos was 4 lbs when I brought him home at 7 weeks
4 lbs 12 oz at 8 weeks
6 lbs at 10 weeks
20 lbs at 20 weeks(5 months)!
And HE KEEPS GROWING!!!!!!!!
47lbs at 12 months!
And we weighed him this week and he weighs 53 lbs!

Don't get worried. Amos is obviously a Rat Terrier Mix, despite the fact when I adopted him I was TOLD she was positive he was full blooded and would only with around 12-14lbs when he got grown!
I love him anyway even though he is a whole lot more dog than I EVER bargained for!

KIM!! Don't scare them!! Amos is a VERY special (and rare) rattie.

this question pops up every once in awhile...I went back and found the "offical" growth chart.

formula for determining adult size from puppy size:

weight @ 6 weeks times 4 or 5 = adult weight

weight @ 8 weeks times 3 = adult weight

weight @ 16 weeks times 2 = adult weight

Buddy - gone but never forgotten.

Yep, even the vet figured Amos would be around 16lbs. When he hit 20lbs at 5 months I asked the vet what happened with your gestimated weight? He said, "Guess I missed that one, huh."
I didn't mean to scare you. I'm sure your pup will fall into a much more normal category of weight. I just don't believe anybody about what a puppy is gonna turn out to be anymore.

LOL, Kim!  Amos is defintely a big, beautiful boy!

Thanks much, Lisabeth, for the "supposed to be" size info.  If he follows that protocol, Rip should be...likely 12-15lbs.  I should know better in a month, tho, when he hits that 16 week mark.

There are pics of Rip (as well, of course, as our GSD and Aussie mix) at stormcarver.com/Family/Dogs.html

OMG!  This is so true....we got Dink at 14wks (his 1st vet visit he was 15wks) and he weighed 6 lbs.  He turned 1 in June and he had a vet check up last week and the vet said he was 12 lbs which is right on the money and a total shocker for me b/c I could've sworn he was between 8 - 10 lbs and a Toy Rattie b/c he is so sleek and muscular and LIGHT AS A FEATHER.  I just about fell over when the girl told me he was 12 lbs.  So my Dink is a Mini Rattie!!!

If your pup is indeed 100% type B aka Teddy Roosevelt rattie then he should only weigh 11-15 lbs. when full grown (assuming he's not a toy type B). Teddie's don't get very big!
