Ok, so I understand that rats dont like cold weather but this is kinda rediculous. Pixel shivers when its like 60 degrees out. This weekend we went to monterey I had to actually go to carmel to a doggie boutique and buy her a coat. This cant be normal can it? In the mornings I can sit out side in just a cami and jeans and eat breakfast and Pixel is shivering away. Should I be concerned? What can I do to help?

BTW I never thought I would dress my dog up in clothes and my husband was certainly against it but after seeing how cold she was both of us caved. She even shivered in her dreams after we were inside!

Is she shivering from cold or excitement?  I know that Ivy needed a coat when it was cold here and at night at the ballpark she just climbs inside someones blanket.  I really don't like dressing them up but when your cold ya put clothes on huh.

she's still pretty young, right? so she still might have her "puppy coat." once her adult coat (usually thicker/coarser than puppy coat) comes in, she should be a little better. some of these ratties have pretty thin coats, though. I cringe to think how much a doggie coat must have cost in Carmel...

Yaz shivers ALL the time. When she is tired, cold, excited, whenever.

Ripper is 11 weeks old and has the same issue. If I bathe him or if -- goodness forbid! -- he experiences rain, he shivers like he's going to come apart. I make sure he's as dry as possible and put his thermal hoodie on him until he's comfy. I figured that the issue is his minimal coat with no undercoat and the fact that there's really no insulating body fat to keep the little guy warm.

I have always had big dogs and only one (a beagle/dalmation mix who loved to play in the cold until she was half-frozen - and also had a circulation issue) did I ever put anything but a sweatshirt on for necessity's sake. I always swore I would never "dress" a dog. I guess I was wrong!

I have a backpack I carry, or at least have in the car, whenever I travel anywhere with the dogs. It contains a treat bag, a travel water bowl, a couple bottles of water, a towel, toys, pick-up bags...and now a tiny sweatshirt.

Theniffs, you and I just have to remember that there's an amazing difference between functional clothing (http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2751112) and "I will never go there" clothing (http://www.emmarosedesign.com/dog_clothes/home.php?cat=256).

Pixie always seems to be shivering, but my husband thinks he will melt (and sometimes I just wish he would, LOL) if the A/C isn't set on 65. Most of the time I can put a shirt or a little dress on her and she warms up pretty quickly. She also has a baby blanket that she likes to snuggle up in

I do like cute doggy clothes, though. On Pixie's walk the other day, some kid told me she was "fly." I wasn't sure if it was a compliment or not, so I said "Thanks" and hoped I didn't look like too much of an idiot. Of course, I don't think I could have looked much more stupid than I already did....after all, I WAS walking a dog that was dressed nicer than I was....

I never bought her a coat because we found her in March, but I bought her a pretty thick sweater because it was still chilly in the mornings and evenings when I took her outside. She will be getting a coat this fall. Getting her "arms" in that stupid sweater was a REAL treat, lemme tell ya....

Fly is good, but if they say ghetto, you might want to rethink any outfit lol

Nora is a shiverer and when she was put in my arms, I thought she would pass out from it. She was chilly and nervous. But 60 does not seem warm enough for her and I don't want to dress her, I always laughed at the little coats and hats. But she will need it all to get through the winter.

I read that rats do not like "whether". either hot or cold. high maintnece pups that way

We're in Florida and y'know we don't get really really cold winters but Dink gets the shivers when it's cool out so I have to put sweaters on him.....and I love it....hehe.  (he doesn't seem to mind either)
