Hi everyone, its been a few months since we have been on this site, Peewee is now 6 months old, so my question is, when is he sexually mature, well when is he capable to actually do some damage if he is with a girl in heat? His little balls have not even developed yet and he is 6 months old? I actually never had a baby boy dog before and this is such a silly thing to ask, but I really would like to know. Thank you for any advise.

At 6 months, I would think that his testes should have dropped or at least be starting too. Don't know when he would be considered "dangerous". Amos was developed enough at 5 months that the vet was able to "alter" him without any complications. If you are planning to "alter", check with the vet. He'll be able to tell you if he's developed enough.

Hmm...Buddy's dad was still pretty young when he got the female pregnant...they didn't think he was "old enough" to do anything, but he proved them wrong. We don't know for sure how old he was (he was found as a pup on the side of the road), maybe around 6 months old. I ended up with 2 great dogs...Buddy and his dad Nak.
If you're going to have him nuetered, you don't HAVE to wait until the testes drop. One of my brother's boxers had to have a "retrieval" surgery...meaning they had to go in and find the testes when they had him neutered. He was about 8 months old, and is by far MUCH bigger than their other boxer who was neutered at an earlier age.

Buddy - gone but never forgotten.

Blue was neutered at 6 months because he started humping (not dogs) and marking. I would just ask your vet. Ours said they usually did it at 6 months.

It's time for neutering....he is able to get a female pregnant. Wulfie was neutered at 3 1/2 mos....not a big deal and didn't cost anymore as his were beginning to drop. Most vets recommend 6 months though unless you are doing the early neuter (Wulfie was a Ratbone dog and they are required to be spayed/neutered before adoption).

A question, why are Ratbone's required to be neutered/spayed before adoption? Fairly new on this site and still learning about ratty's.
