Do you know the guy's full name?  Have you tried to search the public records in your county?  try it....it's amazing what you can find out about people....in situations like this you'll have to do alot of the leg work in getting some justice done.

No i don't know is full name but the cops told me just told me he is a registered offender level 3 who didn't re rigister with the state. i was like WHAT?? i wish i would have known beofore i moved in and i would have never moved here. he's also been arrested many times for Dui's, domestic assualt and of course rape and peeping and stuff like that. now i'm totally freaked out and don't want to live here anymore. i'm only in my 20's and live by myself right now. so after this gets sorted out i'm moving out. i really hope they find him he doesn't need to be anywhere but in jail! i know is first and last name now

So that's why he ran! It wasn't to save his dog at all.  And he's exactly the type person who may have been training that pit to fight or be agressive, too.

OMG, that is crazy. Poor Max in all this. I feel for you. I hope this all gets cleared up but even when it does it wont' bring Max back. At least with him being gone you are safer now.

Had a gut feeling there was more to his running than the dog incident. Hopefully he stays gone. If you want compensated at all for the vet bills, etc., you're likely going to have to discover who he had insurance with, if anyone at all.

I'm not sure which state you're in, but I believe most (like Ohio where I am) have a registered offender database where you can punch in your address and it will give you the names and address of all registered offenders within a certain radius of your home. I am even signed up to receive email alerts should someone new move into the area. Of course, this doesn't help with those that don't register.

maybe you should get a big dog to help protect you should something happen?

Here is your state's site where you can go and look up information for your area: http://www.doc.state.mn.us/level3/search.asp

Knowledge is power. I think it's wise for most everyone to at least periodically check with their state site and make sure no one dangerous is living nearby, especially if you live alone, or have children, or grandchildren, etc.

I'm glad you're getting help from the police.  Stay aware of your surroundings and keep your doors locked.  Ask the vet if you can make payments and just pay what you can monthly, it's better than nothing and they appreciate that you're making an effort.

We hope you stick around and if and when you're able to get another rattie, we want to hear all about it, hopefully by then, you'll be in a new place or that guy will be long gone.

In the meantime, like Daisy's Mom said, find out what your resources are (police, news, internet, etc) and use them to get justice for Max.

We're always broke too and somehow manage to take care of 6 dogs (well, except the vet care for the fosters). Come to think of it.....maybe that's WHY we're always broke? LOL!!!! Luckily Bill just got a promotion.

I just saw Max's story for the first time.  He was an adorable puppy and I'm so upset that he passed the way he did.  I know it has too hurt so much.  I'm so sorry.  I do believe there is a reason for everything.  Maybe Max's death saved you from becoming a victim of this criminal.  Like you said you are young and single and I would hate for you to have that guy for  a neighbor with his pit bull.  I hope he stays gone and they put his @$$ back in jail.  I would be looking to move soon if I was you.

I'm just so sorry for your loss.  Please stay around here and I bet we can get you hooked up with another puppy somehow when you are ready to move on and we are sure this guy and his pit bull are out of your life forever.

What a dirt bag.  They will catch up with him.  He prob won't be back cause he knows they are looking for him.  So scary to  think of living near that kind.     Hope he has the money to pay can't get blood out of a turnip ya know.  Best place for him is jail!!!!!He can rot.  Laugh at what happened to little Max.  The guys in prison will know how to treat him!!!  It makes me very mad can you tell?  Keep after him!!!!!!  Protect your self.

They will find him may take a while unfortunately.  What comes around will go around for him and he will get his just rewards!!!  He won't be able to get way.  I would imagine they have his record of previous whereabout and where he liked to hang out ect plus he was buying the house and I don't know anyone that can just walk on that kind of investment.  Just know my thoughts are with you.  When I found out about Max I was just crying and my boys asked why and I told them why and just how we would feel about it if it was our Ivy and now they know just what I am talking about when I protect Ivy from bigger dogs.  Today the border collie from next door came over the fence and they brought Ivy right in.  Thank you for the lesson for my boys!

That is what the boys learned to watch for other dogs and if it is bigger get to me or go the other way.  You could never had seen that coming in your own backyard we know the collie visits us but don't trust him at all he is a border collie with out a job and is kind of a freak any way.  Ivy loves to play with my folks rough collie but he is 10 years old and she can out run him heck she runs circles around him and he can not even keep up but good exercise for both.

If this guy did just buy the house he will probably be back. I would let all of your neighbors know to keep an eye out and if they see him to call the police immediately.

This is so sad. This guy will be caught.

That scum...He was the one laughing about an injured puppy and now he's not laughing but running like a coward.
I hope he isn't hiding his dog with a relative or friend and coming back like nothing happened.

Have you searched for him online?  If you can find his pic and info on the predator list or your counties public records I would make copies of it and give them to all your neighbors.

Honestly I dont think you should pay the vet jack crap. They said nothing was wrong with Max and he was obviously very hurt. Why would you pay for a misdiagnosis. Id have a word or two with them as well. Ask the lawyer about having to pay the bill, its easier to withhold than it is to get your money back.

I agree. They should have caught the internal bleeding.

I just read this entire post and I am so very very sorry. I know what it's like to lose a pet because of someone else's ignorance and stupidity. The person who did it to me is paying th price now, and I know that this guy will be punished as well.

I know you guys are all for putting the pitt bull down for the most part, someone even suggested feeding it antifreeze. Please, guys, try to remember is it not the DOG's fault. It is the owners.
Maybe we could feed him antifreeze.
