I am so so sorry to hear about Max. I would definitely retain a lawyer as they obviously don't think they did anything wrong and are going to fight you on paying any bills or pain and suffering.

You have to be in shock right now. The people behind me have a boxer pit mix, that keeps trying to dig under their privacy fence, and under mine to get to my babies.I keep putting dirt back, and lots of small logs, to keep the dog from being able to dig under. I keep having to tell my doggies to quit barking at the dog, so maybe there will not be an altercation. I only leave nime out for short periods, and make them come in if they bark. Poor baby Max. He was not hardly big enough to even bark yet. It is a real nuisance to have uncaring owners living by you. I never hear them talking to the dog, or playing with it.

Oh dear. Their dog jumped the fence and it's an ACCIDENT? I'd be getting a lawyer at this point and I am not a litigious person usually. But if the police are not going to force folks to be responsible, then see if the courts will.

So sorry for the loss of Max. I don't think any one of us could have thought he was injured that bad, especially since the vet checked him out. This situation is just terrible. So sorry!!!

I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved Max.  Please do not let these people intimidate you.  Max and you are the victims in this situation.  I don't see how your pup could have done anything to incite their dog to leap over the fence and attack your pup.  Their dog is now a killer and he and they should not get away with it.  If possible take a picture of their dog and hold one up along side a picture of Max so people can see how big the killer is and how small Max was.

I too am so sorry for the loss of your sweet Max. One thing I can say is that you REALLY need to listen to Tracey (Daisy's Mom) She works for a lawyer and has great insight into the legal stuff. I know it won't bring your baby back, but maybe it will keep it from happening to someone else.

You are really very strong to be able to be doing all this right now--those people sound vicious and that is probably why their dog is--I just do not understand the law in these cases--

Oh my gosh, how awful! Poor Max! I'm so sorry! Pits can be great dogs, but they need to be owned by responsible, mature, aware individuals who will take the necessary steps to ensure everyone's safety. Obviously that's not the case here.

I'm so sorry for your loss! Please let us know if we can do anything.

This just breaks my heart! I am so so sorry! You should be safe on your own property. What if it been a young child playing in their yard...would they have just gotten a warning? Glad you are using the courts! HUGS!!!!

i live just within city limits. the owners of the pit came over just now and said that i've taken it to far. as far as them having to pay the vet bill. i was like YOUR dog jumped MY fenced. Max didn't even do anything to your dog. Max was 8 weeks old. then he went on to say that i must have done something to provoke his dog then. I can't believe how increbidly stupid some people are. i told him he is paying for the bill and that i have contacted the news station which will be out here shortly. i think they own but didn't give out the insurances name. i will look into it. thank you so much for all the advice

Excuse me? What a$$ holes!  These are exactly the type of poeple who should not own a large dog, let alone a pitbull!  Any large breed dog can attack and kill a small dog (just had a neighbor's chi killed by another's neighbor's loose golden retrieve mix!) BUT pitbulls are wired to attack other dogs. Sorry to whoever that offends but it is true.  Go look on pitbull lover websites - they will advise new owners that pitbulls are dangerous to other dogs!!!  Not people - DOGS.  Personally, I can't stand the breed but if a person chooses to own one they should be held accountable for keeping the dog under control at all times just like a wild animal.

Getting lawyers and the news involved is the best idea...hurting the pit (which I agree, antifreeze is too good for the dog!) would just get you in trouble.  I'm so, so sorry this happened to your pup.  It totally shows, once again, the horror that people have created in breeding the pitbull.

omg guys the guy is gone. he must have left in the middle of the night. there is no sign of them. the dog is gone and most of their things. so now what? i called the cops and now he was a warrant out. he was not supposed to leave! he was supposed to stay put until all this got sorted out. i can't believe some people. he just screwed himself more by leaving. i hope they find him. i'm really mad/upset and hurt all at once. i just can't believe he left i guess the truth came out that he knew his both is vicious and probably doesn't want him taken away or pts

I was wondering if that was going to happen. I was just thinking if it were me and someone may take my dogs I would skip town. The only thing is if he is an owner of the house then he is going to create a whole slew of problems, which is good. Hey at least you don't have to look at him now and should you choose to get another pup you won't encounter the same danger. He screwed himself and most stupid people will. I think it's kind of good, now the cops will go after him as they wouldn't before!!

The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too

OMG! I hope they find him (was it just a guy and the dog, or were other family member living there too) and he OWNS this house? How can he just up and leave? Weird. Maybe he was worried about more than just the dog issue? Perhaps he has other problems and isn't happy the cops are involved?

Wow. I hope they find him. He needs to be held accountable. If he knew his dog was a danger he should have taken precautions (muzzle when out or additional restraints. I HATE irresponsible owners. I'm not thrilled with aggressive dogs either, but they CAN be managed if someone chooses to do so, just like lions and other large animals can be managed in rescue and animal parks but it takes an effort and responsible attitude.

I would probably still document everything take fence pics etc. in case they catch him because now you have criminal AND civil charges that will hit him.

WOW, that's weird.....but don't give up, I would definitely try to persue getting some money out of the jerk just for the principal of it.  If he owns his home then he hasn't gone far, he's just making himself look worse.  If he's gone for good then it will be better for you in the long run if and when you choose to get another pup....you may not get justice for Max but you will certainly be better off to not have a neighbor like him.

I hope they do air it and tell it like it is. And I hope this guy is caught. I mean it's good that he isn't there anymore in case you get another dog you won't have to worry about it being attacked but this guy needs to have that pitbull taken away from him. Otherwise it will kill more dogs.

I'm so sorry about your little puppy, what a horrible thing to have happen and he was such a little guy.
