Found this one another forum: Dr LeeJuly 5th, 2007, 05:15 PM Mucus in the stool with no other signs cannot be readily linked to any particular disorder and may not infer any illness. Mucus is produced by the colon in order to help facilate the evacuation of the stool (pooping made easier). Occasionally more mucus than 'usual' can be made. It can also be made secondarily to any colonic inflammation which can include intestinal parasites, bacteria, swallowed foreign objects, and unusual foods. If the clinical signs are more than once - you may want to contact your veterinarian. If other clinical signs such as diarrhea, blood in the stool, lethargy, etc... are seen then I would go immediately to your veterinarian. |

| I just went through something like this with Lucy. Well, it started out as mucus in her poo, but then escalated to colitis (an infection of the colon). She began to have increasingly watery BMs with throwing up. She was not a happy camper. Took her to the vet and was put on medicine to make her BMs solid and was given a bland diet to feed her. I think the mucus has to do with the tummy being upset or an irritation in the colon. Was his poop solid, or somewhat squishy? I think what I would do if this were happening to Lucy, just because of her just going through a sickness which started out like this, is to feed a bland diet of rice and boiled chicken. I'm definitely not saying that your dog is on his way to being sick, just that he probably got into something that is upsetting his stomach and it wouldn't hurt to feed him the bland diet for a day or two to help his tummy/colon. |

| Oh, I will add that she did have blood in her stool, diarrhea, and vomiting later that night following the mucus in her poop. But, hers was an orange color. Not sure what color the mucus was in his. Not sure it makes a difference or not though. |

| Caesar had this too...due to eating "foreign objects". Had an upset tummy... my vet told me to try the bland diet too...rice & chicken. It went away with no problems...but if this continues I would go get it checked out. |
