Hi everyone! My name is Annette and I hope this is the right place to post my introduction.
I just acquired an 8 month old male RT from a girl who was moving off ft. stewart post and could no longer keep him. Surprisingly, I found her ad on craigslist. So all these months of looking paid off.
Sadly, I just lost my 13 yr old Jack Russell last week.
I had called the girl that day and told her I was in no shape ready for a new dog. She told me she had another family for him.
Then a few days later she contacted me to say it didn't work out, and did I still want to meet here little guy.
I was feeling so traumatized and horrible, and my 2.5 yr old APBT Cesar was sad too.
I was very worried that it was too soon. But I decided that are no rules when it comes to grief and loss. I really wanted my next dog to be a rat terrier, and here he was in need of a new home.
So yesterday I brought him home! His name is/was TANK, because is daddy is in Iraq as a tanker.
I might change his name to Teddy but today "Kiwi" seems right???!
He is SO tiny, feels like 8 or 10 lbs.
He is lovey and tough, growling at Cesar over his bone!
I got him a little harness that fits in walmart.
I can't teach him SIT though, with his long legs--how do you do that?
Cesar really likes him, but they are both worn out from yesterday's long walk and playtime.
He is tricolor, absolutely adorable. I'll get pics up soon, but I have chores to do for St. Pat's day company.
Thanks for letting me join your world. I belong to pitbullforum.com and I know how helpful these forums are.... |

welcome and pictures soon please. In answer to ? re: teaching him to sit with long legs, you do it the same way as any other dog except I would start working him on a table. I found that it really helped along the process and now my guys will down or sit anywhere. I hope that helps somewhat and I am sure that you will get a lot of ideas on how to train him |

Hi; I've got a JackRat, her name is Annie, I hope it's OK, she ain't purebred, but by looking at the Jack Russels, and the Fox Terriers, and the Rat Terriers on the web to see which she resembles the most, I'd have to say that she's more Rat than Jack, IMNSHO. I got her when she was about 8 weeks old, and we were living in a tent for the summer, (That was an experience for the pups!). She is about 7 months old now. Annie has a playmate, Lucy, a PomPoo (my wife's dog) that we bought from a lady who rescued her from a puppy mill. They can't stand to be separated, and it's almost like they were litter-mates. Lucy was about 8 months old when we got Annie, so she has taken over the mothering duties since day one . Annie is a great dog, and I hope to learn a lot about her by visiting this site often. I don't expect to be posting much, I'm more of a lurker, but I will probably ask questions now and then. Oh, I noticed that you have no members in Montana, well, now you do! We are from Central Montana. Thanks for this site, I've learned a lot already just by lurking around and reading a lot of the posts. Linuxdog |

I'm brand new to site also. Colin and I lost our little Rough coat Jack Russell a short time ago and I swore never to get another dog. But then I saw this little dog posted at our local dog pound and we went to look at him. Well you know how the story ends. Rambo ( his name now) was advertised as a Jack Russell, but with the build and those ears I knew he was a rattie. Rambor is about 4 months old, still has some puppy teeth, weighs about 14 pounds. He's all white, with the exception of the mas on his face and he has an exclamation mark between his eyes. He's such a sweetheart.
I do have one question, however, his tail was not docked. Is it necessary (he is an indoor) or does it stem from when they were used primarily as working and hunting dogs?
Rambo made himself at home the minute he walked through the door. He is so full of life, the world is his toy box, he's one busy little guy. Spin, crash and burn.
