Well I see his pic in your profile - he IS adorable We have at least one or two ratties here that sort of resemble his coloring. To create an avatar - just go to the Edit Profile section where you put his picture before and there's a window to upload the pic as an avatar and then his picture will be under your name beside every post you create.
To add larger pictures for us to see, got to the Photos of Rattie forum and create a new thread. After typing in a message in the message box, underneath are 3 spaces to upload pics of (what's his name?) |

Welcome aboard! We had another member recently whose rattie was having what they thought might be seizures, but now I wonder if they could be these tremors. Does your rattie take any medication for them? Will they get worse or better over time, or just the same?
To put an Avatar picture by your name-click the my profile link in the upper right corner, you can edit your profile and attach a picture (less than 500kb I think, you might need to resize the pic if you have trouble uploading it). There is also a separate photo forum where you can go snap happy with pics.
ETA- I type too slow- you already figured it out. He's a real cutie! |

| Well he has had two siexures as well...very mild though and they think it was caused by these tremors. He is on prednizone (a steroid) and is doing much better...they say he could be "cured" in 6 months or it might always be around. we are in the middle of treatment and are hoping he will be able to go off the meds in a couple of months....i hope that solves the problem but if not then i will always have to keep the meds on hand and if he starts up again then start the meds again....i can keep you all updated...we had to go to a nuerologist (can't spell) because this was above my vets normal relm....and this is where i get all this info....sometimes i wonder about it but the meds seem to work so i guess he is right...and the stiff legs as a symptom makes sense cuz we have always laughed at the way he "prances". It is just hard with him because he also has allergies (where he gets really bad rashes and sometimes "blows up") and is on shots and meds for that so we have to be careful about meds etc....he is a mess but it is not as bad as it all sounds! and like i said so worth it....he is the sweetest thing. |

Well with his shots (there are two they get and i think it is his rabies one...but it might be the other one)....we give him a benedryl shot first then wait for that to set int hen give him his shot...the first time he got his shots he blew up like a little balloon...scared me to death....I feed him the brand Avo-and it is a lamb and rice formula....but he gets his meds in a little ball of wheat bread. |

| We were told it's because they're nervous. Seems when something scares miles he shakes like that too. |

Hi I am new to this forum but am so excited to see other people who love their ratties like i do....I would take your puppy to the vet just to be sure...sometimes they do shake cuz they are little or cold that is what i thought about mine but he actually has something called intention tremors. This is when they "intend" to do something and they just shake because a part of their brain misfires...it could be because they are even thinking of doing something but the shaking usually stops when they are resting or sleeping...my dog does it the worst when it is eating time and when he is excited about something. a major sign that they have this is the have stiff limbs...like my dog doesn't bend his front legs when he walks...This is not very common though so i would try wrapping it up and keeping it warm but if i continues i figure it never hurts to ask your vet!
Wow, I just saw this!!! Someone shoulda PM'd me ! This soooo sounds like Jack. Maybe this is what it is?? He does do it when he's thinking real hard ....stiffens up then "wobbles". My vet hasn't heard back from the neurologist, but maybe I can ask her about this? Any more info you could give would be great. He has been so much better lately...I actually haven't seen him do it in at least 4-5days, although at one point it was multiple times a day. I didn't really think they were true seizures but it couldn't be ruled out! Oh this would explain a lot if this is what it is! Thanks for the info!! |

| yea like i said i am/was pretty scetchy about going to a doggy nuerologist but what he said makes sense and the meds he gave has helped so i think he could be on to something. Truthfully what i said is about all i know. I looked it up on the internet and it pretty much confirmed what the doc said. Orvis shakes the most before meals but before the meds it was pretty much all the time. the key with the tremors is they stop when at rest...if they are cold they would keep shaking...and the stiff limbs was a key for orvis too....i think it is something worth looking into but i don't think it is super common and would be cautious before spending money on all the tests etc-i only paid for the basic visit and we are trying this before we get intensive testing....it does explain alot and if it can be "cured" then it is worth it....if not treated it can get worse....i hope this helps and if you learn anything more let me know. |

| Thanks, I am going to try to repost a video I have of Jack if you could take a look at it? The neurologist they would send me to is at Cornell and at this point is too far and too expensive.....at least for now he seems better. We were holding off neutering him for the time being in case it was seizures so I would really like to figure this out!!!! Thanks again! |
