Have you checked out Ratbones Rescue? They transport dogs, too, if there are none near you.
If you're looking for a purebred pup from a breeder they usually cost more than $100....more like $200 to $400.

Welcome, and stick around to let us know how your search is going. I am not sure if there are any young ratties on Ratbonerescues.com, but they are a great organization. Also, it looks like there are a lot of ratties in your area on petfinder. Goodluck on your search, and keep us updated!

Peanut

Not Suitable for small children
  • Animal: Dog
  • Breed: Rat Terrier [Mix]
  • Sex: Female
  • Age: Baby
  • Size: Small
From: Companion Animal Rescue League

More About Peanut

Peanut is a sweet little one who was rescued from a neglectful siyuation where she was tormented by two large dogs.. It's hard to believe anyone wouldn't cherish such a sweet little beauty. Peanut is about 4 months old and she's almost house trained, she's trying very hard and is 99% there.

Peanut would appreciate a home where she'll get lots of attention even if she has to share it with another small gentle dog. She's very playful but still teething and needs lots of good chew toys to help her cut those new teeth. She would especially love a home where she'll get lots of love and cuddles, what beatiful girl wouldn't. Because of her small size, less than 6 pounds, she would do best in a home with gentle older children.. No large dogs, please. Peanut is terrified of big dogs.

Peanut is spayed and current on her shots. She's learning her manners so she can go to her new home acting like a good girl. If you think you might have the right kind of home for Peanut please email mail us for an application and tell us a little about yourself. No phone calls please! We're all dedicated volunteers who work full time and email is much easier to handle most of the time.

More About Ratsey

Ratsey is a sweet black and white Rat Terrier mix. She came to AFRP from the King's County Shelter. Ratsey is still basically a pup at 8 months. She weighs about 12 pounds and shouldn't get much bigger. Ratsey is crate trained, but like all young dogs, she would benefit from obedience training. I found several more that are OK with kiddos...I just didn't want to overwhelm you. Let me know if you need help finding anymore. Also, where in CA are you and I can look for ratties that are in your general area...CA is a big state like TX (where I am from) and I know that one area may literally be hours from where you are. It takes something like 11 hours to get from where I am to west Texas.

Location: Californa

This little cutie pie is Vincent. He is about 9 months old. He weighs 9 lbs. and won't get much bigger. A real gentle sweetie, this happy-go-lucky boy knows sit, loves the car, and will come when called from the back yard. He is full of energy and loves to run and play. He is working on his skills on the leash and housetraining, having mostly gotten the hang of the doggie door. Vincent is not crate trained and doesn¢t want to be, preferring to sleep under the covers with you. He is okay with cats, although he barks at them sometimes. Vinnie likes kids and loves other dogs. He is always cuddled up to one of his foster sisters, especially Tracy. Vincent has separation anxiety if he is left alone without canine companionship and will bark the whole time. Therefore he has to have another dog living in the house for him to feel safe. He is a smart guy and with someone who wants to show him how to become a reliable member of the family he will blossom. To see more pics of this darling: click here .

This dog is okay with:

cats

dogs

kids

This one I found on www.ratbonerescues.com

He is in California, I am not sure where, but they do a great job of helping to arrange transportation.  It looks like he is within your age specifications, and he is good with kiddos.  Let anyone here know if you need more info on Ratbone.

SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY

Merry was rescued from a high kill shelter. She had just had puppies, none of which survived the cold night. She is possibly a mix of Chihuahua, Rat Terrier, Jack Russell Terrier. She is about 1-2 yrs old, 11 lbs, super sweet and affectionate, LOVES attention, is good with all people and other dogs, and loves to play. She will make a wonderful addition to any family. She has been vet checked, treated for fleas, and is being treated for kennel cough.
