My granddog Beagle is visiting through the holidays and our rat terrier Max is so possessive and jealous they are not getting along very well.  Any suggestions so we can make it through the holidays without going insane?  Moburt

My suggestion is to set clear boundaries between them. If you have a baby gate anywhere in the house, I would suggest putting it up and putting one on either side. That way they can get used to smelling each other without being in each other's face. I would also recommend trying to walk them both together, get them used to each other and let them knw that they are part of a pack, even if it is just a temporary one.... Hope that helps, happy holidays, hope things start going a little more smoothly between them.

Maggie's ideas are good ones. Hopefully with a divider and plenty of supervision, they'll learn to at least co-exist long enough for grandbeagle to go back home

Welcome to the site. I see Max in your profile, he's very cute!!! If you tried uploading an avatar, you have to make sure it's in lowercase .jpg format.

I hope you stick around. And let us know how how things are coming along.

Merry Christmas!!

Welcome to the site! I see you're in Angleton! We lived in Galveston & Texas City for over 30 years! Been to Angleton many a time. You'll love this site. Lots of great people and great advice. Good, funny stories, too! Can't wait to see a pic of Max!

Merry Christmas from a fellow Texan! I agree about walking then together and setting clear expectations and boundries...Maybe even keep leashes attached to them while in the house so if someone gets out of control, you can stop the situation immediately.

There is nothing better than wine and chocolate!
