Lately I seldom get in the mood to sew, but last week the urge hit me (why I wasn't on-line so much last week).  Several years ago I bought this piece of hand-embroidered crewel at Hobby Lobby when it was on clearance (couldn't afford it regular price!), with the intention of making a jacket to wear with jeans.  Well, 2 years+ later, I finally got around to it.  Wanted to wear it when we go up to Dallas Monday afternoon.  Gonna be in the 30's up there.

The base material is soft, heavy weight homespun cotton that is quite soft to the touch.  The wool yarn is scratchy, so I had to drop a lining in the thing.  My pattern didn't include lining instructions, so it took me awhile to drop the lining in there & decide how to pull it all together.  This is the final result.  Lance thought I was crazy to use drapery material for a jacket, but as it's not the first time for me doing this, he accepted the notion reluctantly.  Now that it's done, he admits he likes how it came out!  Got to go find some shoulder pads to sew in for it before it''ll be completely finished.

I debated on the huge buttons, but as they're so popular right now on outerwear, I decided to give them a try.  I think they're OK on it.

Thank you. I think I'm gonna get a lot of wear out of this little jacket.

Thanks.  I did quilts for awhile, but too hard on my back.  I sold my quilting rack a couple of years ago.  My grandmother in N.C. used to quilt when she was living.  Probably made 40-50 over the years:  state birds, state flowers, wedding ring, pinwheel and lot of different patterns.  She usually used scraps my Mom would mail her from all our dressmaking.

I have three sewing machines and a surger. I was wondering if there are any rattie clothes patterns at JoAnnes or something? I saw a houndstooth coat that was close to my Bellas size but way too big in the Belly. Seems like most of them are reallly big around. Must be for some chubby Cocker Spanial or something. Thinking that I will make her some cute clothes. Haha! Reminds me of when my kids were babies.

We don't have JoAnns here. I'm familiar with them, though. I never look at dog patterns because my girls won't wear stuff at all. They'll barely tolerate their collars, LOL.

Great job on the jacket!  I have fabric in my "collection" that is far older than 2 years old!  I should take your lead and do some sewing!

Regarding the drapery fabric, wasn't it Julie Andrews, as Maria in The Sound of Music that made outfits for all the VonTrapp kids out of drapery fabric?

Yes, I can't look at green velvet now without remembering Scarlet OHara's outfit, complete with drapery fringe! LOL
