I am the proud new Rattie owner of a 3 month old girl. Is this too old to dock the tail? I have mixed feelings about it, but it seems many do have their tails docked. |

| Tails are normally docked at 3 days old - at 3 months it would be more like an amputation. Some ratties have tails and they are cute!!! |

JMO - but I don't think if it isn't done within the first few days, it should not be done at all. Ratties are "allowed" to have tails, and many do. Plus there are natural bobbed-tailed ratties as well. My Daisy's tail was docked, but I wouldn't have cared if it wasn't. Under no circumstances would I do it after the first week of age.

I think you should leave it! I love rattie tails.
Plus whoever did Nibbler's left a lot of scar tissue, so you'd have to be sure you had someone who really knew wht they were doing.
Persoanlly, I think that she's too old to have it done, i don't know if there are certain medical risks or what not with docking a tail so late. |

| My Jack has a tail and I love it. Jeter is bobbed and that's cute too. But in my opinion 3 months is way to old to dock it. |

| Thanks to all for your quick replies. I am relieved! I didn't want to think about doing this to my little Zoe. As soon as I can get some pics I'll post them-she is so sweet. She is doing very well with her potty training and socialization. We may have a slower start since her first mom didn't have the time for optimum socialization d/t illness in the family. I trust that with loads of love and patience she will do just fine. Again, thanks to all. elfmom |

I'm glad you aren't going to dock her tail. My Bella has a long tail and I just love it. She wags it like crazy when she is happy and it curls up when she means business, haha. I'm sure Zoe will come along just fine like you said. Can't wait to see her.  |

| It would be a major procedure to dock the tail at this age. At 3 days they don't even feel it, really. I have one of each and LOVE Zipper's tail wagging. Button's little nubbie wag is cute, too. |
