We have two sisters, 5 months old, and they lick everything all the time. Us, each other, the furniture, the windows, the walls, whatever they can reach - is this normal? Does anyone have a solution?

Hi, and welcome to the group!  You'll love it here!  I'm a retired teacher in Texas.  My husband & I have two female ratties, too.  One is 3 and the other is 1½.  Sounds like your pups may have what is called OCD, or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.  I don't know how that is managed, but I would discuss it with your vet next visit.  You could Google OCD and see what information you can find. I had a dachshund that used to lick my back porch floor all the time; another dachshund that licked the back door glass all the time.  Funny thing is they didn't lick anything else in the house.  Luckily my two ratties only lick my face and shower me with kisses all the time.  I hope your vet can offer some advice.  We'd love to see pics of your puppies!

I had this problem when mine were brand new babies, but it went a bit further. Lick lick lick, then chew... They chewed up our floors, and ate the paint off the walls. chewed apart my ironing board, ripped up my boyfriend's blue tooth (don't ask me why it was left around, i think i may be taking care of 3 babies instead of 2 :p). As if i didn't buy them a million other things to chew on of all shapes/sizes/textures. It turned into a real problem. solution: Lol and some may consider this to be mean, i don't know... but a vet down here told me about this product called fooey, you can get it in the pet stores. Anything that really needs to be off limit in my place to the dogs (which are clearly the things they want to be after the most) like the fire extinguisher or cleaning products... even the stove, because i'm worried about them putting their noses on it while something's baking and getting burned... i spray with fooey. We havent' had a licking or chewing problem since i bought it. Now they just concentrate on their toys!
