I was wondering if anyone has found indestructible toys....orvis is a chewer and will tear anything to shreads....the only things around my house that last are nylabones, kongs (but he doesn't like those cuz i can't stuff them with anything he is not alergic to) or huge rawhides (but even those go quickly). stuffed toys are gutted in minutes. Has anyone found anything that can be played with or chewed for a long time and not be destroyed. I like to give him variety but am always back to the basic two/three!

Lucy isnt much of a chewer, so I can give her anything to play with, but my Doberman, Darmok, likes to chew on rubber toys, so I got her a dog-bone shaped toy that's made out of the same stuff they make car tires from....I think it's called "Pup Treads" or something like that. Got it at Wal Mart, and she has been chewing on it for over a year. It has a lot of bite marks, and some missing rubber, but she carries it around with her all the time. They come in different sizes and shapes, too.

Jack doesn't destroy much either, ,but m hubby got him a rubber ball with a bell in it, kinda like a cat toy, and he loves it. It would be very hard to destroy!

These toys at petsmart do not have stuffing - just a pouch for the squeeker... my rattie still eventually tears them apart but plays with them much longer since there is no stuffing incentive...
Forest Furry Friends Dog Toys view detailed image Product Description: Extra-soft, plush toys have a hidden pouch with a removable, replaceable squeaker. Two squeakers included. Made exclusively for PETsMART. more details
also, as horrible as they smell cow hooves are a favorite at my house.. and there is a line of dog toys called "tough chew" that i bought on line for my lab and they lasted a LONG time...

I just buy lots of plush toys as well as Nylabones. They tear 'em up but don't eat the stuffing...it's the squeakers I worry about. I just make sure when I see one start to go I remove the squeaker so they don't choke on it or swallow any of it.

I have the same problem with my dog. He chews all of his toys up and destroys stuffed animals too. I just buy him cheap toys and let him tear them up.

Just the other day I found some little canvas bone shaped toys that my two love. They came in a pack of two but they still fight over one of them. I think they are made by Bamboo or something like that. They are really tought and mine havent been able to tear them at all.

I found these squeeky toys at Wally World. They are only .92¢ and she has had one for a few months and they are scuffed from her teeth but she hasn't been able to hurt them. She plays with them all the time!

Nylabone® Double ActionTM Dental ChewTm
Veterinarian-recommended dog toy is specially designed for power chewers. Designed so dogs can have the benefit of a toy that is both soft for carrying, yet durable for chewing. Minty fresh center is made of natural rubber, with nubs for dental cleaning. Durable nylon ends massage gums. This is not a consumable product, but small shavings (no larger than a grain of rice) should pas through. Replace toy when "knuckles" are worn down.

Ok my dog will destroy EVERYTHING! so I bought a thing called a Rhino. Its kind of like a kong, but they also have bone made out of the same stuff. Daisy has gotten some of the edges of the bone off but thats about it and the Kong thing still is perfect. It is soo surprising. I did give her a kong and it was done in about 5 min.

well at least i am not alone in having a rattie who destrys EVERYTHING! i am lucky that he has stuck to his toys-the only thing he has gotten to ever was a flip flop...but other than that he has stuck with his own stuff but he is making me broke constantly buying toys!!!! Thanks for all the tips....if anyone else is looking for something i have found something that works really well...it is make by nylabone and it is 3 keys on a key ring...each key is a different flavor-i think they are for puppies but i buy him the big one and it lasts a while but i just think he gets sick of it so thanks for all the helpful hints on new things-if you look for it though it is hard to find...petsmart or petco doesn't have it...i found it at a specialty pet supply store....i will keep you updated on what works!

Irie also manages to destroy anything I put infront of her - especially anything soft but really anything. The only things I've really found to work are the black kongs (stronger than the red) and racket balls.
I spent forever trying to find a ball that had some give to it so she'd enjoy it but also wouldn't be torn apart in 5 minutes. Racket balls do the trick. She loves that they bounce and she can chomp away on them and I love that I'm not picking up the pieces all the time!
She also likes nylabones, but even those she goes through pretty quick.
Oh, ratties. So crazy. |
