The only "public" transportation we have in my little town (besides school buses) is the Senior Citizen bus.  We have no city buses, not even a taxi service!.  So we're pretty much "stuck" too.

Wow! I saw the earlier posted prices and totally thought I had to change states! Until I saw Sarah's comment about it being LAST year!

Cheapest near me is 3.63/gallon and that's at Costco, so you have to wait forever and have a card... Ugh! It's getting so expensive I'd be better off getting a job near me for less pay. I'm paying $40+ a week to cover my gas costs. And that's in a VW Jetta! My work is talking about building a branch this summer about 15 minutes from my house. I can barely wait!!!

This post being from last year really threw me off, haha.

Gas here is between $3.75 and $3.85. On Friday I filled up and it was $3.61 and then on Monday it was $3.75...14 cents in 3 days...geez!

When you own a Rattie....you KNOW you are in your right mind

THE MEANING OF RESCUE

Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed,
All nicely tucked in my warm new bed.
I'd like to open my baggage
Lest I forget,
There is so much to carry -
So much to regret.
Hmm... Yes there it is, right on the top
Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss,
And there by my leash hides Fear and Shame.
As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave -
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.
I loved them, the others, the ones who left me,
But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me.
Will you add to my baggage?
Will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things -
And take me right back?
Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage,
To never repack?
I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see,
But I do come with baggage -
Will you still want me?

I'm not sure if all areas are doing this.... but what erks me the most here is Gas Stations are charging you about 5cents more a gallon if you use your credit card! How they can get away with this is beyond me but all are local stations are doing this. This morinng at "my" gas station it was 3.83 cash and 3.89 credit! Good grief! I pray I never HAVE to use my card for gas....

thats so incredibly stupid.  The only reasoning behind this is that it costs the store a bit of money to run a credit rather than cash, but still its stupid.  Thats like places that have a $5 minimum to use a credit card, which by the way, is illegal (here at least), once i found that out... i  pull the "you know my dads a cop and its illegal to have a minimum" line.. they always let after that.

Mike drives a diesel truck and all the pumps around here cut off at $75 so then he has to run his card again to finish filling the tank!

Thats why I don't understand, if it's illegal to have a minimum how can they just charge you more, shouldn't that be illegal too?? Plus I think I would rather have more credit used and less cash in the register. (just incase of a robbery) Also does it really cost a store that much to run a credit card? I dunno anymore, I just hope our economy makes it threw all this. It really scares me. It's like people aren't going to even be able to afford to get to work

I complained to the gas station for them shutting the gas off at $74 and he said it was just a minimum that was programmed in and he said just tell me next time to reset it and I will bump it up to $99....  So I guess that means it could be changed - don't know why they dont do it,.

We are cutting back on extra expenses to ease us on the $600/$700 gas bill we have now.  *** sigh

Well at least there is not a shortage... I can remember sitting in the car waiting to buy our .73 cent gas - shutting off the engine in line so we didnt run out of fuel. .. then the sign coming up "OUT OF GAS" and we only had about 10 cars to go.  My Dad was very upset

We are having the can't afford to get to work thing here in the boonies! My husband car pools to work and I car pool to school. We go with family but it is a major hassle. Not every body's scheduals mesh very well. At this point we can't afford to drive a Honda! What are we going to do with all these cars out here? I remember that at one time nearly every compact car was close to 50 mpg. Where are those cars now? Even supposed economy cars don't get more than 35 mpg. This is totally ridiculous! And then they ask you to trust your government! The scariest words I ever heard were, "I am from the government and I am here to help." I almost slammed the door in the guys face.

Last night I had to pay $3.95/gal at the pump......right after leaving the grocery store where I ended up paying around 10% MORE this week for essentially the same things I got last week. I swear, I dont know how people are expected to survive with everything on the increase except our paychecks.

high gas prices are hurting us here too.....   in this little town with one flashing light, at one gas station it's 3.84 and the other is at 3.94   and this town is between 2 bigger town which is approx. 15 - 20 mins away.  I will be driving to Lima today, and I'll let you know what they are priced at....   either they have a real good deal going on or it shot up.

But we are going to cancel our dish network real soon....  and my car is almost paid off, just a couple of more months.... but still!!

oh and we have been buying food thru the angel food ministries....   which is you can get a box of food worth 60 dollars but you pay 30.00   I know it's not all over the united state but if you are interested....to see if there's one in your area....   go to  http://www.angelfoodministries.com/

Oh, and since this little town is so small...  I just walk more....   walk to the post office to get mail and to get the kids at school, if weather permits.

But I agree,  something has to be done.....   I am not working, and am a college student, and we are living on my husband's income.....

oh and I am grateful for my husband's company's truck... he drives that to home and work daily....   that helps out trendmously.....

I told john, when they reach to 3.99, i'm gonna be sick.....

3.89 & 3.99 in Louisville, KY.  Has anyone also noticed a jump in their grocery bill on top of gas OUCH!!!!!!!!  Great time in my life to be making the least amount of money I've made in over 15 years.  I try to keep it all in perspective (my parents were "children of the depression).

Good grief. Gas is up to $2.79 a gallon here. Why is it going up again?? I may have to take out a bank loan just to get gas money to get to the meet up!!!!

You all are lucky, unleaded alone here is $4.10 and diesel is up to $4.83!

I've read that a lot of the cost of oil is because of speculators in the oil commodities market and that these high prices can't and won't last.   That's all pretty much over my head, but I do think it's a crime that our politicians won't allow us to drill for the oil that is available to us.  One sure way to bring the price down is to increase the supply available.  We have been satisfied with buying cheap oil from other countries but that's not working out so great now.  The oil we can drill for at home may not be as cheap (under normal conditions) as the foreign oil but it would provide good paying jobs to people here and we wouldn't have to worry about the middle eastern countries fighting each other.  It's also pretty bad that the government is subsidizing the use of ethanol,  using corn for fuel,  which is making the cost of food skyrocket worldwide.

Hubby has a lawn care service and so far hasn't raised his rates for mowing. That means we're making less profit, (what's profit?). As the economy gets worse, I just hope a lot of people don't start mowing their own lawns to save money. I think lawn service, like maid service, is a luxury item for most people.

Does anyone remember those old commercials where the pretty lady says "if you don't already own an oil well, get one!" I think it was about investing in an oil company or something. I guess I should have listened to her years ago.
