I was at a store and bought a lot of things to get ready for Jordan's Deployment Party that we are having next week.  While I was at the check out waiting there was a woman behind me that said, " looks like you are having a graduation party".  I said, "Actually we are having a deployment party for my son."  She said what a dumb idea, dont you know he may not come back?  I replied, "Yes we know that.  Maybe that is why he wants thel party to see his family and friends just in case.  He asked for the party and we are giving it to him."  I then said , "You know when you leave the store you may get in an accident and die today as well".  She said, "You should wait and have the party if he gets home".  Another lady there said, "I think the party is a great idea and thank your son for me."  The other lady just mumbled something but I ignored her.

God provided us with a filter in our brains to stop stupid things from coming out of our mouths. Particularly things that could be hurtful. There are people out there who ignore that filter.

This is for you and your son. Please tell him "Thank You!"

My Son, My Hero
Words of wisdom, what can I say, my child is leaving for Iraq today.
He asks me for solace, comfort and love,
I ask for strength and courage from my Father above,
for he's going to a dangerous place and tells me Mom, I'm scared.
I tell him god is watching your backside, son and you two will always be paired.
I tell him I'm praying for him constantly, but then he says, Mom, pray for us all,
So tonight when I bow my head, my promise to my hero, upon God, I will call.

He's my hero, but he's my baby, too.
Taking his life into his hands while protecting me and you.
Those who think we shouldn't be there, I've got this to say to you:
He's a hero, and though you don't deserve it, he will fight and might die for you.

I've never been a letter-writer, but a new task I partake.
To be sure my soldier boy knows he is remembered, no mistake.
I'll remind him that our hearts are with him, every minute, every day.
Locked inside my heart is his mind, body, soul and right there he will stay.

He's my hero, but he's my baby, too.
Taking his life into his hands while protecting me and you.
He needs to know we will all remember just why he is there.
To lift all our soldiers to our Lord in heaven, for His great abundant care.

Jesus said greater love has no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
So my sons military heart in service to his country he did lend.
What can I possibly give my soldier, in return for what he's given me?
In the beginning I gave him life, but in the end he makes me free.

Some mothers won't get to welcome home their soldier boys,
Just a flag-draped coffin, lots of tears, but not from tears of joy.
We must not forget to pray for their helpless broken hearts.
For the pain of final separation when their precious one departs.

Christian is a man, a soldier, and my beloved son.
With military expertise and God's guiding hand, he will find this war is won.
So Lord God, I plead for thee to keep my soldier safe, healthy and strong,
and let him come home, he and his buddies, when their work is finally done.

Jeez, some people have crap for brains.  May God bless your son (and all of our other service people around the world) and keep him safe.  A big "Thank you" to your son from my family.   

OMG that makes me so angry!  As someone whose been deployed before..I made it back and so will Jordan  The ignorance out there is unbelievable!

My grandfather was career Air Force and served with Darby's Rangers during WWII. All six of my uncles were in the Air Force - two were career men. Two cousins were in the Air Force - one made it a career and retired two tears ago. He is now teaching at one of the Air Force Academies. Another cousin was in the Marines and served in Desert Storm. My dad was in the Army for 23 years and served in Vietnam. He was in the medics. My brother was turned down  by the Army due to a heart murmur.

To all who have served or who have family members who have served or are serving....Thank You!

Bill Engvall is right .... "Stupid people should have to wear signs that just say, 'I'm Stupid.'"That way you won't depend on them for anything and won't be surprised or hurt by the stupidity that comes out of their mouths.

I will definately post pictures.  My darling son went and invited his entire unit to come!!!!   Thank you to everyone for your support.  It was very hard to not cause a scene.

Michelle~~wishing your son a safe deployment and return home.  You know, as hard as it is to believe, some people, like that stupid woman you encountered today, just don't know what to say because they are uncomfortable.  Silence is golden, and that should have been the route she took.  My own family is ignorant to the ways of the military, and they don't even ask questions.  Again, it's wonderful the support we receive from our families who understand how important a simple thing like this party is.  Kudos to you, mom, for doing that for him and the rest of his unit. 

All very good advice and Yes, the high road and dignity are usually the best policy in the end cause public arguments do end up leaving people wondering who the idiot is. BUUUTTTTTT,   my personal favorite when encountered by people like this woman is....."Next time I want your opinion, I'll slap it out of ya!"   Now,  my momma tells me that it is just not very ladylike and I should always be the bigger person, but mannnnn it sure would feel good in some cases.  Naturally, I have taken my momma's advice and managed never to dive down to the level of the idiot I am facing, but it can be very difficult sometimes.

Oh and just like you can't have sunshine without rain, you can't have all good people without some stupid ones.

I hope you have a great party and celebrate the family and love that is here and now and let tomorrow be tomorrow.  Thank your son for his bravery and generousity by dedicating his life to making everyone else's life free for them to live it the way they want!!!
