My husband insists that Wolf is the most selfish dog he's ever met. He's sure the dog only cares about himself. I insist he's simply an active little terrier and hasn't settled down enough for the caring/sharing stuff. Yesterday turned out to be a true test for my little doggie man.
Saturday I went to the mall to shop and then join a friend for a movie and dinner. It was a nice, relaxing fun day. When I got on the bus to return home (our van was in the shop), I was patting myself on the back for all running so smoothly. It didn't even cross my mind that the driver was running late and apparently too busy to secure my chair. The first left turn he made, my chair fell over on its side, spilling me out. My very hard head bounced at least three times, and my arm had some pretty serious abrasions. 911 had to be called because I couldn't get back in my chair. I was miserable but at least my chair was operational, except for the armrest being broken, the little thingy that keeps the power cable attached to the joystick cracked and the fastener that keeps all the power cables secure was gone.
Wolf didn't pay me any attention when I came home. No sympathy from him.
Then yesterday my son and I were speeding through Wal-Mart's parking lot when the chair went dead., thanks to the iffy connection due to the pounding the chair took on the bus. When it stopped, I kept going and landed on the 115 + degree blacktop. I freaked because it was hot. Luckily, there were guys doing construction work who came over and helped me back in my chair. This time I was sure I had broken my leg. I couldn't leave my son at the store, so we made it home. The chair blinked out a couple more times, but we were going less than 1 mph so I didn't get pitched out.
Once home I called 911. I was crying because I was in pain. Charles was crying because he was freaked out. Wolf was in his crate, looking back and forth between us frantically. When the firetruck and ambulance arrived, he started howling, which turned into a bark when the house was filled with big men and their equipment. My son and my neighbor sat with Wolf the whole time.
I got home five hours later with a very bruised, but not broken, knee and some second degree burns on the back of my legs. When I came in the door, Wolf jumped out of my son's arms and ran over to me. He was all concerned with his ears pinned back and the whites of his eyes showing. He frantically sniffed and licked and wanted to be petted. I said to my husband, "See, Wolfie does care about me." My husband shook the bag holding our dinner. Wolf's ears shot back up and he looked at me like, "Do I smell burgers and fries???" Then he was off like a shot, doing ballet in an effort to get a fry. My plight completely forgotten.
Okay, is he a sharing/caring canine or completely selfish??? |
