Most people that I know don't know what a Shiba Inu is. Looks like a small Akita( another japanese breed, if you don't know). Anyway just wanted to see if anyone knew about the breed, lol, I know about it! whats your favorite breed, other then the RT?

Rottweillers and Mutts (I know it's not a 'breed' but some of the best dogs in the world are mutts)

Sure,its a breed! Heck, one way to look at a "purebreed" is to think of it as a pedigree mutt! No offense meant! Lol, sometimes I call my dogs mutts, affectionately! My sister loves rottwielers too! And pitbulls! I love many dog breeds, but RT and Shibas are my ALL TIME FAVORITE!

I'm part Japanese, so I can tell you what Shiba Inu means....they are cute! I'd have to say the Sheltie and Chihuahua are my second favorites next to Ratties. I had both growing up. I've never had a Doberman or Boxer, but would like one of each someday.

boxers are a cool breed, we had one female name Lady, theres a story behind her, along with a Pitbull named Champ, short to say, there were some bad case of puppy love between those too! I love shelties too! I had one named Daisy! Lol, I think i can safely say that i've had almost everydog breed, or close enough. I would like more of japanese dogs besides the shiba, spitz, or akita, maybe like the Kai inu, hokkaido inu, I know about the tosa inu, but wouldn't want one! Lol, maybe you know where I can get a kai or hokkaido? How do you prononce those? .

Yeah seen them at the dogpark. I have heard they are mean and the ones at the dogpark were.

Never heard of a Sheba Inu but besides RT's,my favorite dog breeds are German Shepards and Boxers.My great uncle has always said the German Shepards are known for going crazy after they get old but i've never seen that happen and all the Boxers i've ever known have always been really friendly dogs.

If you met a mean shiba( if it was, there are some dogs that do look shiba) then maybe they were ill treated or something to cause them to be mean!

Yep I know what a Shiba Inu are, a lot of asian breeds like chow and shar pei's tend to not be very nice from my experience working at animal hospital for 6 years.

Well, thats your experience, I guess. No two dogs are alike, i guess. I just know from MY experience that shibas are one of the best dogs. And as for chows, i believe they are a CHinese breed, not from korea or japan. I have had only ONE chow, named CHuckles, funny name for a female! Of all my dogs in my life, Chuckles makes the list. (theres 7 outstanding dogs) We raised her from a puppy. Chows, I know, can be stuborn, but loyal. She was very loyal to our family. Some chows are a one person dog, Chuckles weren't. She were a FAMILY dog! Protective, especially of the kids! She was our first and only chow and knowing how some chows, especially first time mothers, we ddin't want to chance her killing any of her pups, so we went to get her fixed and discovered it was too late! ( Yes, it was our fault for not being observant enough! We have learned alot since then!) My cousin had a half chow mix who had just given birth to pups, she killed every pup but one. They had to force her to feed the pup, eventually they had to bottle feed it. Sadly, we were dreading the birth of her pups, we even had puppy formula and bottles ready, to bottle feed them ourselves, if the need arose. It didn't. From the very first moment, Chuckles was the perfect mother: loving and caring. No pups died, not even of natural causes. She didn't die of natural causes, not of old age. NO, she gave her life for US! Now, what kind of 'mean' dog does that? She never started another fight with ANY dog. In fact, when she was barely 5months old, a neighbor's pit, attacked HER. Her ear was torn and had to have stiches. I will admit, she was a bit reserve around those she didn't know, but never did she become aggressive towards others. Now for sharpeis, I've haven't personally have had any but my aunt and uncle( the same one who had a pet skunk) had several, different times. Molly stands out the most to mee. I was just a child then, about 4 or five. The sharpei is also a CHineese dog, not asian! From my childhood memory, I remember a big, loving, if not fat, dog. Molly, among the others, was spoiled rotten! She had her own bed, not a doggie bed but a toddler bed complete with blanket set and pillows and in her own room! That dog ate before my aunt's kids did(thats why she HATED that dog!) and her husband spoilt it rotten! It was sweet as can be though! I have and still have apicture of me and Molly on her bed, in her room! Molly died because my uncle fed her alot of human sweets( vet told him not to, but he didn't listen) such as twinkies and choclate(bad!) and candy stuff. Fat began to build around her heart and she died, as the others did, because my aunts husband gave them totally sweet HUMANE food and it killed them! My aunt and uncle are not together and haven't been for decades! Poor doggie! Thats why when my little nieces come over, I make sure the dogs are up and out of reach while the kiddies eat!

I agree all dogs are different and if people breed the nice ones then you get good dogs. My boyfriends dad bred Kuvasz and I have heard nothing but bad stories about them. The first time i went to meet them the pack leader jumped up and bit my face and arm. She came from a kennel that the people were breeding for looks and could careless if the dogs were nice. Which is probably why everyone I talk to says the breed is mean cuz ppl are breeding mean ones. Plus there arent a whole lot of the in the US. I am sure there are nice chows just the ones I have met have not been trustworthy. This one I used to see at work at 4 months old was cornering the owners child in the kitchen and she would have to scream for help everytime she left the kitchen. The dog put the son in the hospital twice and after that he was put to sleep at 1 1/2. I am sure they are good dogs if children arent in the house or other animals. We had another client find a whole litter of chow puppies in a dumpster about to be compressed. Which is weird, I wonder why they were trying to get rid of this whole litter of puppies, horrible. I always thought of shar pei's as short brissley chows. Poor dogs have a lot of issues with their skin. This one came in and got too close to an office cat and my cat hit the dog to fend him off. The dogs skin was so brittle the dogs started bleeding and the owner accusing me of having cats with nails. My cat had no nails. I am sure there are nice dogs in every breed you just need to research and find good breeders. Just like rottweilers have a bad rap but some of the nicest dogs out there are rotts. You just gotta search for the good ones cuz ppl have two pure bred dogs and will breed anything.

your right, jules, its the buyer's duty to research good breeders and such. Before we got Chuckles, we asked our vet if he knew anyone with some chow puppies. He personally recommended two breeders. And some friends of ours recomended some. We ended up going all across my state, to about 15 different breeders. It was worth it, we finally found a very reputable breeder. We seen both mother and father. Both were socialzed from birth and extremely friendly!The pups were handled by the humans as well. They didn't have like alot of dogs.They only had 2 pairs, and they were only dogs. They had health certified papers and all this other stuff. While we spent a pretty penny on chuckles and traveled almost out of state for her, she was well worth it! Pitbulls have a bad rep too. I have only had one pit, named Champ and he was socialized from birth. My mom( I was a child at the time, lol) was a bit wary about him, hearing all the bad stories about the breed and such. He makes my list of 7 dogs! He ended up being my Momma's dog! When he passed on, she didn't want another( the guy had a full liter of siblings) but she said no. And to today, she hasn't wanted another pit but having Champ changed her outlook on the breed, as it did with many of our family.

Well, I knew Shiba Inu was an Asian dog breed (never heard they were mean either). Besides ratties my fav breeds are: Corgi, Chi, Doberman, Rottweiler, wolfhound

Shiba Inus are Japanese. Inu, means dog in Japanese and Shiba, is just the way to specify the breed. I only know this, because my closest friend is Japanese. They are spunky little dogs. My personal experience with Asian dogs, in general, is that they are one-owner dogs. It's not that they are aggressive just for the sake of it, but that once they bond with a family, or an particular person, they do not like being uprooted. This can make it a little more difficult to get then rehomed, if the circumstance arises.

Irish wolfhounds! didn't know Borzoi are also Russian wolfhounds. I have a whippet and love sighthounds in general. The Irish wolfhound and the Scottish Staghound are just so big and ancient looking - and I love medival history.

i love medical history too! Yeah, borzoi and the russian wolfhound are the one and same, though most common name of course is the Russian wolfhound. I know a person( she works up at the animal shelter) who has a whipet, though I don't know muchh bout them other then that they are in the sight hound group and somehow related to the grehound lol. Did you hear of that story of a russian man(might have been a prince or noble) who came upon his beloved russian wolfhound over the body of his dead baby? In anger the man killed the dog only to discover after his death, a body of a dead wolf! I belive its a picture book.. have you heard of the saarloos wolfhund? The breed was created by Leendert Saarloos, in the Netherlands in the 1900s. He done so because he noted that contemporary dogs had become weekened with hip dysplasia and similar conditions. He resolved to rectify the situation and created this breed by crossing a German Shepherd Dog back to a wolf. The breed is unmistabably similar to a wolf in appearance! So beautiful!

I hate to hear anyone say Chows are mean!!! My mom bred Chows for years and we never had a mean one. Even the one we got from an abusive home wasn't mean she was my big sweetie. We got her when I was about 9 and she loved me. She tolerated me yanking and pulling on her and she never bit me. Even when she was sick in the end before she died she was just a big sweetie. She only bit one person in her life and that was my step brother who was hitting and kicking me at the time.
