Took my truck into a service place today (not the Ford dealer).  After my exciting adventure yesterday, it is running but still idling very rough. (I bought gas yesterday and within about 10 minutes my truck started running rough and died.  Randy got it started and it is now running okay, except at idle.  I put a full tank of new gas in to it today, btw.)  Anyway, my "check emissions" light is on since yesterday's event.  So, I took it in and they did the routine services, which was due, but then tried to hook their computer up to it to see what was going on with this light.  The computer would not read my truck?????  They tested their computer on other cars and it did okay, so it is something weird with my truck.  Now I am trying to get it into the Ford dealership maybe tomorrow if I can get the appt., which means another long trip.  Well, we have an extended warranty, so hopefully if something is wrong it will be covered.  Any of you ever have this experience?  Cars are so complicated now.

did you gas up at a reputable place????  My husband got gas a month ago at a place off the interstate and they apparently mixed water in with the gas...bad news...had to have new engine.  It was making a loud clunking sound.

then again, your troubles may have nothing to do with the gas you put in.

now as far as the computer in your car...that happened to my car when I lived in North Carolina.  I went to have it inspected and they couldn't read it...WHATEVER...it was a Honda Accord...how many of those are floating around?  I think it was a glitch.

I had a problem exactly like that once & was told it was the filter in the fuel pump. It was replaced & a few weeks later the problem was back. As it turned out, it was the fuel pump itself. However, in this day & age it could be a number of different things, PCV problems, worn vacuum hose, bad sensor.

Hey Jan, just talked to Bill.  He says the emission light could mean the "o2 sensor" is bad and it could have gone bad from the bad gas!  That would be covered under extended warranty (as well as a loaner car) if you bought the extended warranty from Ford.  They will know when you take in by running the VIN number on it.  He also said that emissions problems are often covered for 8 years or 80,000 miles.

Forgot - he also said that the place that couldn't "read" your truck either had operator difficulty or their equipment wasn't up to par.  (Said something about OSI....specifications or something the code reader should have had.)

Jan,i know what the problem is...It's a FORD!.if you take the word FORD and turn it around to where it reads as DROF,know what it means?

well, i probably shouldn't disagree with you, but I may have to. I'm a GM employee actually, BUT, the fuel pump went out on my chevy after 62000 miles. I have driven on empty before, but I don't make a habit of it. So, I'm not to happy with GM right now!
