Found out today that my friend/co-worker Jeannie lost her mother on July 4th to alzheimers...she was only 50. Jeannie is not handling it well at all.  Isn't that so young???? She got diagnosed only a few months back.

Oh, so sorry, Nat How sad. I'd say 50 is very young especially for Alzheimer's

I'm so sorry Nat. And since I AM 50, it is a very scary thing.

So sorry to hear about your friend's mother.  Alzheimer's is very difficult for the "victim" and the family.  My grandmother had it and it was very hard on me to walk in a room and my grandmother not recognize me.  Your friend's mother's progression must have been extremely fast for her to pass so young.  That must have devastated the family.

Hey Nat,

One of our former store managers is said to be suffering from advanced Alzheimer's.  He just retired last year and within months he's in terrible shape.  I was discussing it with a coworker whose mom died of it and his father died of cancer.  Having had to deal with both, he equates Alzheimer's not unlike cancer. Both are horrible for victim and family, and it's suffering is felt well beyond those bounds.  Just try and keep your keep your chin up and continue being there for her.

Best regards,

Michael

Alzheimer's is a horrible disease. My dad has it but he's in his 80's...got it in his 70's. 50's is really young.

My dad had Alzheimer's - died of it in 1995. He started having problems around that age, but not bad -- we just noticed some changes. He died at age 80. It is a horrible disease, but my mom had a stroke in 1993 - her mind was fine, but her body was paralyzed. I think I would have rather been my daddy. When he got upset, we just gave him ice cream and it made everything better. It is very hard on the family though.

Sorry about your friend's mother Nat. 50 is young, especially since I'm 49. I didn't know people had alzheimers that young.

Oh I meant to ask everyone for a prayer for my aunt who is really bad with cancer. She's only 56, they brought her home and hospice is coming in so it won't be long now. She married my mothers brother really young and she's only 7 years older than I am so we kinda grew up together. Thanks

My FIL got Alzheimers when he was in his early 50s. Early onset is usually faster acting and more severe. My MIL devoted her life to caring for him, which is why he lived for so long after his diagnosis. When he was first diagnosed, my MIL had my hubby take all the guns and rifles out of their house because she was afraid he would kill himself.
