I had Bama out and while he was sniffing around, I decided to pick off the dead flowers from my begonia I have hanging.  I set it down and started picking.  Then, I noticed a big pile of moss and stuff and started to grab it and toss it when I happened to see the eggs.  Very quickly, I hung it back up.  I'm not a "bird person" so I have no idea what kind they are.  We have mockingbirds (they usually nest in the camellia bush,) blue jays, and a couple of other kinds.  The nest looked to be pretty small, so I feel like it's one of the others.

YES---PICS!   Do you think it fell out of a tree, or possibly was a ground-nesting bird?  We have a lot of Killdeer birds here that nest right on the ground---usually in gravel,  around parking lots or even close to train tracks.  They sort of look like sandpipers to me, and are very pretty birds, and a total hoot to watch!  If you get close th their nest, they will fly off a distance from where the nest is located and "fake" a broken wing, so you'll divert your attention to them instead of the eggs.

Austin and his buddy found a few Robin eggs yesterday....unfortunately they found them because they had either fallen out of the tree or been pushed out and Austin's buddy accidently stepped on the only one that hadn't hatched. He was very upset, but I told him that since the other two had already hatched, that this one was probably a "dud" egg and the mommy bird pushed it out of the nest. He was fine after that...then they went about the gross task of "examining" it with a stick...I wouldn't let them actually touch it!

I'm pretty sure the bird built the nest in the pot because it is almost completely in the middle of the plant.  I was afraid that I would've scared the momma bird off after I took the basket off the hook (it's hanging on a tree) and started picking out dead flowers, but when I took Bama out a minute ago, I peeked in and she (or he) was sitting on the nest.  Maybe I can catch momma off the nest and get some pics.  My luck, they'll hatch while I'm at the beach next week.  It is the bird I thought it was, too, but I still don't know what kind it is.

Trina, see if you can get a pic of mama bird, then.  We had sparrows that built a nest in a hanging basket of petunias once.
